For number forty two, comes a mix from someone whose mixes have soundtracked many of my days in the last few years. @alblayney is a Dublin, Ireland based digger, DJ and label head - running @appiansounds label and more recently @spaceshepherdmusic

Al is a relentless digger for smooth dub techno and dreamy house and electronica records - sounds which trademark his always lovely mixes. 
Beyond his knack for crafting mixes, Al's label @appiansounds has seen releases from the likes of @forest-drive-west , @o-utlier and many more, and boasts a diverse, classy and exciting catalogue of music.

Q1. How and where was the mix recorded? Could you tell us about the idea behind the mix?
I recorded it at home using a turntable, an e&s mixer and ableton. I wanted to listen through to music I had come across recently and dig into the tracks deeper. I leaned more into the trippier sounding tracks with really nice sonics and "world-building" characteristics.

Just in time for the onset of winter, Dan Thorman’s mix is here to keep us cosy. A soft blanket of healing sounds in muted tones and gentle textures, Dan’s mix is a beautiful story which provides a quiet comfort: an insulated cocoon of warmth to retreat into.

Dan is someone who gives some of the best hugs going, and always smells amazing too. He’s a kind and sensitive soul, with an easy laugh and excellent taste in music. He has a real gift for making everyone around him feel brighter and happier, and his mix is no exception. A perfect soundtrack for curling up on the sofa with a steaming cup of tea, and a good book 🕯️🧡

The mix builds up from subtle drifting mists, into glistening tones and resonant chords. Evolving at an unhurried pace, and in a delicate manner, as one track morphs into the next, washes of sound dissipate into the fuzzy notes of an organ, or the muted hoots of an owl 🦉🍃

Rich in acoustic instrumentation and sounds from the natural world, it brings to mind looking through a fogged window at trees being buffeted by strong winds, or the last light of sunset seeping away behind a hill. The mix draws to a close with a cerebral drone, slowly waking us from a mesmerised trance, and leaving us feeling both rejuvenated and restful. I hope you enjoy this listen as much as I have, thank you Dan for this lovely entry 🌄🤍

The latest Space Cast collaboration between visual artist Evie Cahir and DJ and artist Sokeiprim ( @sokeiprim ) brings to mind a quiet river on a warm summer's day, floating on the surface, the sun reflecting off the water like sparkles in the air. There's a softness to this mixtape that's much like a lullaby, with soft plucks on harp strings, and gentle taps on xylophone keys, and a watery texture beneath it all. It’s no wonder Evie Cahir’s visual response to this mixtape is the softest and most gentle mix of pastel tones that gently move and fade into each other.
