Darkling

The Dying Miss Saeki (Den döende fröken Saeki) is the fourth and last movement in From the Bottom of a Well (Från botten av en brunn) based on Haruki Murakami's novel Kafka on the Shore. The the sounds were designed from, and the music was written from a grounded theory analysis of the book. The piece was performed and recorded on the 16th of December 2021 by Robert Ek, clarinet; Kevin Kirs Verstege, cello; and Rikard Vilhelm Lindell, eurorack at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm. This track is a loopable drone made Disquiet Junto project 0554 using the chord E5, A#4, E4, D#4, Db3, C3. The Junto project is based around John Cage's “Organ²/ASLSP”, a 639 year long piece that happens to be playing this chord right now.  

Submitted drones will be sequenced into one large drone piece to be played at the Cage Room, a pop-up workshop and exhibition space of the festival at Progr, Bern, Switzerland.
