I recently performed this for a Zoom talent show, so thought it was a great time to knock out a recording of it. This is the title track from the 1996 Tom Hanks directed film, "That Thing You Do". Definitely a great rock-n-roll song from "The Wonders" - a band that never actually existed. This catchy tune was written by Adam Schlesinger of "Fountains of Wayne" fame. Unfortunately, Adam died of COVID-19 in 2020. Thank you for all the wonderful songs, Adam! May they live on in your legacy.

Halo (a Depeche Mode cover)

In the '00s, there was an amazing band of friends in the Portland area named Pharrah Phosphate. Their self-titled release had many well-written songs with brooding hooks you could die for. I had the privilege of seeing them live a few times and always walked away with jaw dropped.

Fast forward a decade and a half, I've been fortunate to collaborate musically with a couple of the band's members, notably Mr. Battrick and Josh Curll. As Josh was heading into PDX last weekend, I convinced him to "cover" one of the songs from their album. He acquiesced, and this is the result of that collaboration.

Ashes To Ashes (a Pharrah Phosphate tribute)

I originally posted this last early year but decided to remove it over the summer. Still one of my favorite songs by The Fixx, and we had so much fun and inspiration while covering it. The lyrics are genius, and they really spoke to me. This song just HAD to come back out!

I did some tracking on it over the weekend to replace the unwanted elements, and happy to re-share it.

We're all passengers in time. The boldness and courage to stay on a new path make me proud. More music to come. Enjoy!

The Big Hand (a Cure cover)

With much idle indoor time over the last couple months, I have been reflecting on musical inspirations. For the longest time, I had refused to cover any Depeche Mode songs. Always seemed like a sort of sacred ground for me, coupled with a fear that I could never do them justice. While that still may be the case ;), I decided that stand was rather silly and should just do it anyway. This is the first of a few DM tributes delivered with must respect and admiration to the original works. First up: "Higher Love" from "Songs of Faith and Devotion".

This is my cover of one of my favorite songs written by Steven Page (formerly of The Barenaked Ladies). The lyrics are brilliantly deep and vulnerable, backed by a happy, almost Beatles-esque pop tune. Love that juxtaposition. So, let's face it. 2021 is of course just a continuation of 2020. This calls for another installment in my cover series of songs by The Cure. 
"The Holy Hour" is the opening track from 1981's "Faith" album. Not sure why I love this song so much...perhaps it is the dark simplicity? Or was it because it was the only tape in my alarm clock for at least 6 months? 🤔 Enjoy.

Been geeking out on generative music lately, especially in light of the reboot of Monody. This track is just a quick bounce; a real-time performance with a mess of wires and knob-twiddling. The cover image is of the actual synth patch.

Ambient Modular Thing

Unsurprisingly, I have always been a New Order fan. The early '90s saw a pivotal yet likely necessary reboot of their sound; particularly a more guitar-oriented stance not unlike their contemporaries of the time. Regret is an amazingly simple song, yet a guilty pleasure by its own right. A classicly catchy New Order hook. Enjoy the cover.
