Girl's Gonna Break It is title of the new The Sore Losers single. The track is the first from the forthcoming second album of the Belgians. The album will be released next Spring, but the band will debut new material at a show at AB Brussels next month.

The song is the first from The Sore Losers album produced by Rudolf de Borst (aka Dolf The Datsun, when playing in The Datsuns. De Borst invited The Sore Losers over at the Svenska Grammofon Studio in Gothenburgh, Sweden to record their new album on the Neve console, which once was the heart and soul of the legendary Queen studio in Montreux, used by no other than Jimmy Page leading Led Zeppelin to their 'Coda'.

Girl's Gonna Break It will be released by Excelsior Recordings on October 15th. The second album will be released next year. An exclusive first taste can be heard at the AB Club in Brussels where the band will debut their new songs on November 16th.

Love Ain't Enough is the song that happens when you give up on giving up on love. Either one has some kind of epiphany, or it becomes too exhausting to fight it anymore. The title is kind of misleading, as it draws from the preceding state of mind, one in which the heart is less open, insatiable. This song is optimism. We were inspired by Steve Reich to create a pulsing bed of harp, marimba, banjo, dulcimer, and other percussion, over which the guitars and vocals can rise and fall.

In 2010 Rökkurró released the studio album Í Annan Heim (produced by Alex Somers of Jónsi fame) to an unexpected wave of critical acclaim - not just within their native Iceland but internationally. The album spent a staggering 100 weeks in the Icelandic chart’s Top 30, while international media such as NME, Clash, The Line of Best Fit, CMU Daily and KEXP Radio championed the band. Three years on, Rökkurró returned to the studio with two new members Helga (piano) and Skúli (bass) to record their follow-up second album which is set for release in late 2014.

In October 2013, Rökkurró released a teaser from the new album in the form of English-speaking album track Killing Time, a three-minute, stripped-down piece of music that talks about “a person who feels young, but their body is failing them and how getting old is a misleading thing,” said Rökkurró vocalist Hildur Kristín Stefánsdóttir.“Our new sound has a few obvious changes. We have added more electronic elements. I have taken a break from the cello and have replaced it with a synthesiser.” This time around, production was done by renowned multi-instrumentalist and producer Helgi Hrafn Jónsson. “His ideas are fresh and we liked the fact that he chooses the artists he works with very carefully. We found out very soon that we shared a common vision for this project and that is really important.” - Stefánsdóttir.

Rökkurró self-release their new album later this year, on CD, Vinyl and Digitally. The album release will be preceded by the single The Backbone (released on 11 August 2014) - also available in a limited handmade edition (120 copies).

The Backbone was composed in January and recorded in February 2014. "We took a break from the album recordings, as we felt we needed new songs with a different feel from the ones we had already recorded. This song came through quite quickly. It changed quite a bit in the recording session and soon afterwards we felt this could be one of the strongest tracks on the album," explains Stefánsdóttir.

"Even though the song has quite a chilled vibe, the rockier bit was probably the sweatiest recording session of the entire album! We had to record that part many times - as it needed to be tight - and by the end everyone had taken most of their clothes off..I think you can hear the half-naked vibe, if you listen closely," jokes Stefánsdóttir.

The lyrics to 'The Backbone' are about the Reykjavík neighbourhood Stefánsdóttirgrew up in, and how it changed over the years, just as she has changed."Things seem totally different as we grow and see them in new perspectives that make us realise how simple our view was. But the innocence of pure curiosity has also a beauty to it," she says.

When asked about the idea behind a handmade single, Stefánsdóttir explains: "We've always been a DIY band. We love making things ourselves. The very first thing we ever released was a 4-track EP that we recorded and crafted ourselves. We hadn't made any special items for a long time and we wanted to go straight back to where we started. The only difference now is, that the single is professionally recorded. Our drummer Bibbi is definitely the most artistic in the band. He is always making beautiful things, whether it's a lamp, a memo book or a painting. He made the covers from scratch, painted, cut and glued them. None of the covers are the same. They are all different and unique which makes them even more cool. They are made from huge abstract paintings that Bibbi then cut down and made into covers."

"Blue Skies is one of the first tracks we wrote for the new album. It came quite easily to us at the start but it was somehow way more of a pop song than any of the songs we'd written before. But in the studio the band had a disagreement about some elements in the song and we couldn't really agree on anything. This song kind of turned into a ticking bomb, whenever somebody mentioned... But after some months we noticed how much we missed it. So we decided to rearrange it and make some drastic changes to be able to make it fit with the other tracks on the album," explains Rökkurró vocalist Hildur Kristín Stefánsdóttir.

"The lyrics talk about fulfilling your dreams and the fact that these dreams can die, if you don't nurture them. I was having a bad day and had this feeling of when things are slipping out of your hands. I noticed that the dress I was wearing had a  blue skies pattern on it and it straight away inspired me to write this line: "Blue skies, all your dreams are dying, blue skies, come and bring them back to life." It was an instant reminder of how you sometimes just need to snap out of it and remember that blue skies are always there," continues Stefánsdóttir.

"We have performed the track a couple of times live and it was amazing to feel the energy in the venue completely changing. Many people came afterwards and talked to us about this song. I feel people can relate very much to it."
