MINDSCAPE brings his unique and fierce take on d&b back to his home label with REANIMATOR CHAPTER ONE on EATBRAIN, the first part of a series of 3 EPs, that culminate in the REANIMATOR LP. As one of the imprint’s most recognisable figureheads, Mindscape deftly demonstrates why that’s the case with the 4 tracks within delivering distinct and succinctly powerful ideas to the table. MANBEARPIG carries a swagger dripping with pure and deliberately paced attitude, whilst SHUT DOWN (feat. COPPA) rides on a fast-moving bassline and percussive flurry. The cold, sharp light of the full moon wrapped each of them in its bitter grasp, tendrils of the deepest anger and regret encircling them as the shadows from the dense branches of the grim forest of their surroundings. Their old friend lay prone at their feet, the gun that ended that precious spark of consciousness still smoking in Lenny’s hands, his weathered face cast down, cold eyes staring at the carnage of his making. Blood flowed darkly from the head wound, a growing treacle puddle reflecting the moon above in its metallic embrace, each of their faces around it mirrored darkly in that slowly expanding pool of their brother’s end. The curse that had escaped his lips as he realized the betrayal was seared into their ears, the final glance spiked through with heartbreak entwined in deepest hate burned into their retinas. But for all their regret, their patriarch had spoken, made himself clear… the family is violence, but it is not the twisted pleasures that he had chased, and the family line, when crossed – is the very end of consciousness.

L 33 cracks open 2018 with his inimitably heavy style of ultra funky and future-focused neuro on home imprint, Eatbrain. Germany's most esoteric and exciting drum & bass production duo Rawtekk present their neurofunk fire with the ‘Here’s To Them (Remixes)’ EP. Get to grips with warped re-works from Joe Ford, Disprove, Woulg and Audeka of four highlight tracks from their latest studio album.

Shogun Audio warrior Joe Ford brings a cataclysmic energy that keeps things dark, hard-hitting and raw. His harrowing remix of ‘Restless’ is all manner of neurofunk madness.

Disprove sinks his teeth into title track ‘Here’s To Them’. Unashamedly powerful with Christine Rawtekk’s spine tingling vocal matched to the sheer force of the fellow Hamburg resident’s production. This one comes with a warning: not for the faint-hearted.

Audeka switches it up with an incredibly complex down-tempo number. ‘K.I.A’ is a blissful techy lullaby, cementing this USA-based trio as one of the most experimental and cutting edge on the circuit. Following suit, Woulg (ft. Lbardsley) sees avant-garde soundscapes moulded with mechanical precision take shape in ‘My Love’.

An observer stood upon a rooftop, gazing out over the metropolis that shimmered beneath him. To all outward appearances, it was an idyllic landscape. Busy & bustling, sure, but in ways that spoke of efficiency and the success of their kind. To them, it was a monument to their collective greatness that they could construct the steel-boned monoliths that reached upward to the heavens, but for the lone rooftop figure, a very different view was laid out below. His gaze cut through the superficial, and saw the city for what it truly was: a TORN PLACE.

Within his eyes those same monoliths represented not success in their glittering facades, but rather the greed, avarice, and corruption of those who dwelled within. He saw the rampant struggle to reach their peaks, the drive to triumph over one another, that also drove its champions to madness as they buckled under the weight of what they had done. As his gaze fell downwards the observer saw the destitute prostrate themselves upon the city’s streets, forced by some cruel twist of fate or the actions of those whom had climbed above. They gathered on these avenues as plaque within veins, their continued accumulation a warning sign of the city’s impending cardiac arrest. Alongside them streamed endless waves of vehicles, emitting choking clouds of black filth that spiralled into the air. So constant were they, that day and night a smog hung above the city, a poison that hung as a sword above all. As the observer took in these things, the city itself seemed to morph before his very eyes, changing its form in accordance with its monstrous nature. Faces upon billboards became malevolent visages with gaping mouths stretched wide in hunger. The towers, once glittering, unfurled before him like the tendrils of some primordial behemoth. All rushed towards him, consuming him within an endless expanse of darkness which was dispelled a moment later. The observer stood once more upon the rooftop, and the city shimmered once more beneath him. But for he who had seen its true nature, it could never be home again.

FOURWARD return to EATBRAIN with the TORN PLACE EP, their second release following their breakout Wolfe EP on the imprint. The four tracks within feature their sound in full, with the titular TORN PLACE providing grounds for it alone whilst other tracks feature a who’s-who of fellow heavy hitters on the EATBRAIN lineup. TORN PLACE opens the EP with cinematic flair, in which otherwordly narration and frantic basses occupy space in equal measure. FOURWARD combine with eatbrain bossman JADE on MAKE SOME, a driving track that pushes forward on the constant report of its stabbing bassline. REDPILL brings his horror infused sound to the table with DIGEST, a collaboration that calls on the pairing’s jump up influences amongst sinister saws. ELBOW features the sounds of L 33 alongside the FOURWARD crew and rises upon booming percussion before launching into a peak section of mechanized highs and rumbling lows. With the TORN PLACE EP, FOURWARD launch their multifaceted sound further onwards and upwards.
