Absolut. Die erzwungene Auszeit hat mich dazu gebracht, mir viel mehr Zeit für Tracks und Experimente zu nehmen. Alles wurde musikalischer und ich habe weniger auf Spielbarkeit im Club als eher auf das geachtet, was emotional auch in neutraleren Lebenslagen funktioniert. Das macht die eigenen Kompostionen nun schwieriger zu mixen, wo die Partys wieder steigen, aber das war die Phase der ausgeprägten kreativen Selbstfindung absolut wert. Mein Liveact Deorbiting hat in der Pandemiezeit sogar ein Album geschrieben, das hätten wir in der regulären Releasemühle niemals geschafft!


🗯🗯 Hast du in der letzten Zeit etwas Neues gelernt? Neues Wissen, andere Inputs, neue Themen? 🗯🗯

Die ersten zwei Monate des Lockdowns im März 2020 habe ich in Japan verbracht. Meine Freundin und ich sind im letzten Flieger aus Berlin raus, der nicht gecancelt wurde. Diese Zeit hat mich diesem Land noch näher gebracht als zuvor schon und so nahmen wir uns vor, für den nächsten Besuch besser vorbereitet zu sein. Wir lernen nunmehr seit 2 Jahren Japanisch. Mit zwar mäßigem Erfolg, man muss die alte Maschine erstmal wieder an derartigen Input gewöhnen, aber selbst die kleinen Fortschritte fühlen sich sugoi an!Da ich damals mit Platten angefangen habe in den 90er, bin ich letztendlich auf CD Player mit Sticks umgestiegen. Demnach liebe ich schon das klassische und möchte die Geschwindigkeit immer noch selbst einpitchen.

🗯🗯 Wie bist du zur Musik / zum auflegen gekommen? 🗯🗯

Musik ist einfach und der Klassiker an meinem Instrument: Freunde haben eine Band gegründet und fragten mich, ob ich nicht Bass spielen wolle. Da hatten die Gitarristen keine Lust drauf und mir wurde eingeredet, das sei einfach. Naja. Versuche auch 20 Jahre später noch diese Lüge zu glauben. Auflegen kam hinterher. Ich bin 2006/2007 rum mit Freunden aus dem Ruhrgebiet nach Berlin gepilgert und dort entdeckten wir, dass Partys nicht nur auf Freitag und Samstag beschränkt waren. Mit dieser Inspiration sind wir zurück nach Dortmund und haben angefangen, Sonntag mittags Raves in Eckkneipen zu veranstalten. Auflegen mussten wir selber, weil Gagen konnten wir nicht zahlen. Kamen leider auch kaum Menschen, weil der Pott noch nicht so weit war aber der Gedanke zählt!

Slot Machine feat. Aydo Abay is settled in a colorful mixture of genres, styles and semblances to familiar sounds. The song floats between the sacred chanting of classic film soundtracks, 80’sdisco basslines and vocoders, as well as pianos and reversed guitars derived from 2010’salternative rock, a dramatic odyssey between Hans Zimmer, Pet Shop Boys and Radiohead. One can clearly hear the reference to the duo’s past as musicians in – and fans of – several indie post and progressive rock bands. Especially when the vocals of Aydo Abay, one of the most characteristic voices in German indie and alternative rock, well-known for being front man of bands like Blackmail, Ken, Abay, Freindz or Musa Dagh, set in. ‘You are somewhere I am in between’ could be the words of the song itself, as it is hard to determine its classification. Nevertheless, it all makes sense, as all the obscure elements form a harmonious interplay that is emotional and uplifting at the same time. Mala Ika strips down the original to its bones and creates a sunrise soundtrack for early morning hours using a subtle bassline and a reduced drum set. Wiener Planquadrat go the opposite direction with their remix by keeping many elements of the original and adding some aggressive acid lines for some extra pressure. With two remixes rounding up the EP on both ends, the second single EP of Oberst & Buchner’s upcoming album pays tribute to their versatile musical past.

Unsere Nr. 241 kommt heute von einem Berliner Künstler, welchen ich durch den lieben https://soundcloud.com/robinschellenberg ans Herz gelegt bekommen habe. Sein Sound ist unglaublich facettenreich und doch so catchy, dass man einfach nicht genug bekommt. Dazu mit einer gehörigen Portion an treibenden Momenten, die immer durch sphärische Melodien unterbrochen werden. 
Darüber hinaus ist einer talentierter Produzent mit Releasen auf den bekannten Labels https://soundcloud.com/Diynamic-music und https://soundcloud.com/AEON-audio. 

Die Rede ist von Jepe der mit seinem groovigen und melodischen  Sound einen immer an die Kopfhörer fesselt. Zumindest mich in meiner Hängematte gerade und euch bestimmt auch.

Anbei noch unser kleines Interview mit ihm, welches ich euch nicht vorenthalten möchte und einen guten Einblick in das ganze Spektrum seines Sounds gibt.

• Was sind deine musikalischen Einflüsse? Was ist dein musikalischer Hintergrund?

Nun, ich fing an, eine Mischung aus Disco, 90er-Jahre-House und etwas Pop aufzulegen. 
Zu dieser Zeit waren UK Garage, Jungle und eine Menge Techno in Großbritannien sehr stark, und da ich Portugiese bin, war der Underground sehr davon beeinflusst, was in Großbritannien passierte. 
Aber für Deephouse haben wir immer auf die Platten aus NY und S Francisco gewartet, die über einen lokalen Vertrieb zu uns kamen. Mit Miguel Migs entdeckte ich zum Beispiel die Deephouse-Szene von S Francisco und mit Masters at Work die von NY. All das nach den späten 80er Jahren, als House groß angesagt war.  Ich war im Jahr 1995...  Es gab also eine Menge guter Dinge für die elektronische Musik.

• Was macht deiner Meinung nach eine gute Afterhour aus?

Der Vibe! Die Leute. Offensichtlich kann die Musik je nach Ort und Zeit eher uplifting oder eher deep sein (das Konzept der After-Hours war für mich immer sehr tageslichtabhängig). Bis Berlin, dass dies die aktuelle eigentlich Clubzeit ist. Also nehmen wir an, dass After-Hours wie ein Post-Club-Treffen ist. 

• Welche Gedanken magst du uns zu deinem Mix mit auf den Weg geben?

Ich habe darüber nachgedacht, was ich tun sollte . Und wahrscheinlich würde ich das machen, was ich am meisten mag: neue Musik gemischt mit klassischem Afterhour-Sound, an den ich mich von meinen Lieblings-Afterhours aus allen Zeiten erinnere.
Einige der Tracks sind frisch getestet und neue Club-Erfahrungen... andere mehr als getestet und bewährt. Einfach eine Reise in Sound und Deep.

Cook Strummer has complied the latest Berlin Gets Physical but first comes a second EP taken from it with two fresh cuts.

This one opens up with a collaboration between Daniel Jaeger - a German underground mainstay who has put out a huge number of high quality tunes over the last decade - and fellow house talent and Jaeger’s brother Valenti. 'Quarantine Cowboys' is Valenti’s first ever release but is hugely accomplished with a superbly low-slung groove, a dirty bass guitar and hiccuping beats. It seduces in its own sleazy fashion, with filtered spoken words adding to the steaminess. It all adds up to a fresh house sound indeed.

Berlin-born Pardon Moi and Feinstoff founder, multi-instrumentalist and touring DJ Freudenthal has a dark wave sound that is all his own. Here he pair up with DJ and producer, Nowhere People, an artist who has been on the scene for a decade now, releasing on labels like Blaufield Music and Imprint Rural and playing regularly at the likes of Kater Blau. ‘Cipher’ is designed for strobe lit dance floors and comes with lashings of wave influences as this track proves. It’s a stark cut with slapping hits, rugged bass and rave lines that amp up the energy levels, as brilliantly cosmic synth patterns unfold up top to bring the light and ensure maximum impact on the floor.

With this second EP, the scene is now set for the arrival of the full compilation later in September.

Three years after Reno Wurzbacher’s entry into the series, Cook Strummer now offers up his own Berlin Gets Physical, a collection of all-new and exclusive tracks. 

This collection will come digitally but also as two different vinyl versions - one will be available publicly, the other is a special edition produced together with the Belgian gallery, Mazel Galerie. The cover art for it was designed by Lyon-based street artist, Brusk and the original will be auctioned by the same gallery in Brussels. 

Berlin-based, Belgium-born Strummer has been a Get Physical associate for several years. He has dropped various singles including the standout 'Rising' which also featured on the Words Don't Come Easy series, and always crafts the perfect mix of rhythm and melody with plenty of hints of his homeland's famous cold wave sound. He often uses his own voice, drum machines, synths and guitars in his music, and since his debut album in 2018 on LOK Recordings, he has had high profile support from the likes of Laurent Garnier, Adam Port and Ame. This summer, he dropped 'Atmosphere' on Obsolet Records which proved another successful outing and now Berlin Gets Physical finds him digging deep into the famous city's freshest and most essential house sounds across 15 well-sequenced tracks. 

His own new offering 'For Berlin' kicks off with a dark and edgy vibe, gothic vocals and tense drums. Glitchy hits and blurting synths add to the prickly atmosphere and immediately lock you in while Los Cabra & Manuel Sahagun's 'Italian Groove' then takes off on waves of serrated dark disco synths and Freudenthal feat. Nowhere People continue that macho disco vibe with the rugged chug and cosmic rays of 'Cipher.' 

The twinkling 'Bad Karma' by Marvin Jam & Le Mythe then allows you to catch your breath with a slower, more spacious dub disco sound and the twanging bass riffs and exotic effects of Daniel Jaeger & Valenti's 'Quarantine Cowboys' rebuilds the atmosphere with some innovative house blues. The mid-section brings brain-frying synth work on 'Out Of The Blue', bubbling dub house and disco courtesy of dramasquad's sprawling 'ziggy' and percussive deep house looseness from 'Abayomi.' 

After KEENE's rubbery and rolling Afro sounds comes more cosmic house richness from Dan Buri and Max Joni & MUKKIMIAU, the driving tech of Red Pig Flower & Lulla and heady sounds of Mike Book. There is a raw house heaviness to FreedomB's 'State of Shock' and things shut down with Electronic Elephant's tightly coiled minimal drum funk on 'Ask Yourself'. 

This on point collection is an authentic snapshot of the contemporary underground sound of the Berlin.

Chris Cargo lands on JourneyDeep Records for their 100th release.

Irish long serving DJ and producer Chris Cargo, is a veteran of the underground scene, he started his production career in the late 90s, and has been at the forefront within the electronic music scene ever since. His music has graced Renaissance, Automatic Records, Whoop, Armada Music, Configurations Of Self and onedotsixtwo, amongst many more.

He delivers two originals here, booth oozing of confidence and quality, as you'd expect. Starting with Dawntreader, a hypnotic and deep workout, with subtle warmth looming, over its trippy soundsacpe, full of drive and dramatic flavours.

Next up its 'Distant Mellow, and as the title suggests, an understated sophistication locks you in to its spell, as the blippy melodic patterns merge and melt wonderfully, with a chunky and hazy wash of goodness.

Baigné dès son plus jeune âge dans des univers musicaux variés aux côtés d'un père passionné de Rock et d'une marraine chanteuse d'opéra, Akrav a su se forger une culture éclectique allant du classique à la musique électronique tout en passant par la pop, la wave, le post punk ou encore le hip-hop et le rap.

C'est il y a cinq ans à peine qu'il s'est tourné vers les platines pour nous faire profiter de sa culture et de ses influences.

Cet univers élargi et singulier transpire dans chacun de ses dj sets, plongeant le dancefloor dans une ambiance à la fois hypnotique et percutante, mêlant des sonorités waves à des basses énergiques et grasses.

Ces sélections offrent donc un véritable panorama qui s'étend des rythmes downtempo jusqu'aux frontières de la techno en passant par le dark disco et l'indie dance, forçant l'auditoire à lâcher prise et vivre corporellement une musique résolument nouvelle et profonde.

C'est pour l'ensemble de ses raisons qu'il a été naturellement amené à jouer au Bricks Festival et au Fabulous Festival et d'y côtoyer des artistes tels que Damon Jee, Adriatique, Popof, Dixon ou encore Ame. Il a également traversé l'océan Atlantique pour faire danser le célèbre Bar Americas, club de référence  sud-américaine.

Akrav est également résident du label mexicain Āsthetics et du célèbre label berlinois Nein records.


Un départ tonitruant donc pour ce jeune artiste bourré de talent et d'une bonne humeur communicative à l'image de sa musique.

Since his earliest childhood Akrav has been immersed in various musical spheres. Thanks to his rock enthusiast father or his opera singer godmother, he made up his own eclectic culture, from classical music to pop, wave, post punk, hip hop or rap music. 

Only five years ago he opted for the turntables to make us enjoy his culture and influences. This unique and broad universe comes out in each of his DJ sets, plunging the dancefloor in a hypnotic and striking atmosphere, by combining wave sounds as well as energising and massive basses.

Therefore these collections offer a genuine overview that extends from downtempo rhythms to the borders of techno music, through dark disco and indie dance : the audience has to let go and physically experience the music, which is truly new and deep.

For all these reasons, Akrav was naturally led to play at Bricks Festival, at Fabulous Festival, where he stood alongside artists such as Damon Jee, Adriatique, Popof, Dixon or Ame. He also travelled overseas to make people dance at the Americas bar, a reference South American club. In addition, Akrav is in residence at Asthetics, a Mexican label and at the renowned Nein Records label in Berlin. 

In short, this is a booming start for this young and talented artist, whose music is as catching as his happiness.
