Brand new on Ignescent comes something different. A true double header, with two tracks each from the super talented Agressor Bunx and NickBee. Always showcasing the faster, harder end of the music, Ignescent means business.

Ignescent’s first two releases have been met with both success and acclaim, and they are ready to do it all over again with 003, which sees the label’s vision expanded through music from two of the hottest names out there. Drum & bass from Ukraine has never looked stronger, and names like those on this release will take the music far into the future. Take a trip on IGNT003.

Agressor Bunx start us off with Club Shake. This one erupts like a storm from its electronic opening, dropping into a major main section, with force and power. The bass rumbles as samples and effects flash across the spectrum, leaving you in no doubt of the Agressor’s intention. This one’s a perfect start to the four-tracker, rolling along with some space age funk. AB continue with the frighteningly good Deadwalking. This one cuts and struts, the sounds of a cyborg race being created. Fall deep into the underground, as the robots soon take over all frequencies. Not letting go for a minute, Deadwalking grabs a hold and takes you far, far away.

NickBee provides Resistance with his first effort, showing off his full range of sounds and flavours as he delivers yet another killer tune. The track builds slowing, cutting and chopping into the drop. Tribal
percussion finds its way into the mix, alongside sliding synths and low, morphing bass. Nick always provides something different in his tracks, and this is no exception. He finishes out the EP with Matrix, a
view from the edge of madness, with sliding, stuttering sounds and an advanced sense of funk. Exploring new territory is very much what Ignescent Recordings are all about, and you’ll definitely find something new inside the Matrix.

If you've been feeling the Erb N Dub and Skope combo that's been providing us with a masterful series of technically precocious dancefloor killers, then don't worry. This is the same superhero team-up, it's just that Skope has given himself a new alter-ego, Malux, specifically designed to push this brand of rave-wrecking heaviness onward. So, after this fresh lick of paint to the war-machine, it seems it's time for the shelling to recommence. In fact, you've probably already clocked the almighty remix of TC's “Next Hype” that they and Crissy Criss cooked up which has been shutting down raves and festivals everywhere this summer.

“Dubplate Killer” sees Erb N Dub and Malux recruit Tony Anthem and Navigator to the cause. The team waste no time in demanding our attention with straight up gangsta orchestral stabs. The signal is clear: this is going to be big. And it is. Manic drums provide the artillery, supporting the downright illegal chemical attack from switching and rearranging basslines. This is all about the complex rhythmic interplay between bass and drum, something which has become a trademark of these producers. When the dancefloor needs a wake-up call, here's one to draw for.

The original version of “Drummer” has already proven its credentials as a heavyweight party-hyping monster. This VIP version takes the elements and pushes them quite a few notches more filthy. The unpredictable pitch-warping bass, vying for the spotlight with the frankly insane drum programming makes the drop a screwface moment for ravers and a “WTF?” moment for production geeks. The dance can't possibly be ready for this, it's going to have to be wheeled-up to be believed.

Apparently the artist formerly known as Skope is reserving his old title for more experimental music. This release proves, however, that even as Malux he's not settling for plain normality. Erb N Dub and Malux are making dancefloor D&B, but that definition hasn't confined them, it's just shown which boundaries to push.

Sometimes you just have to look at the artist names to know a release is going to be something special. North Base have just nailed one huge collaboration, “Third Eye”, with Turno and Harry Shotta, and now they've arrived on Technique for another. And, when their powers combine with the ultra-technical musicality of Erb N Dub, the results are bound to be explosive.

“Punk Rock” goes straight in with the drama. A layer of distorted rhythm guitar keeps the beat, while huge chords and reverberating percussive strikes build the tension. The dark tinge of wailing guitar and pads in the high end ramp the anticipation even further. Then unashamedly aggressive vocal samples take us to a drop that we already know is going to be carnage.

The rough-hewn grind of the guitars in the intro is transferred to the bass, a serrated edge of fluctuating textures that warps and modulates under neck-snapping beats. Then there are those drum fills every sixteen bars that ramp the energy up to to a brand new level. And don't miss the subtlety in the little sparking delayed and reverbing effects that ride over the top to give that extra push onwards. This is going to hit dancefloors hard.

We don't often see guitar-led music mesh with DnB, but North Base and Erb N Dub have demonstrated just how it should be done. Here, the uncompromising savagery of punk meets precision engineering, and these producers prove, once again, that they're at the top of their game.

CHRIS.SU makes a return to his own FATE RECORDINGS imprint with his WITHOUT YOU EP, a four track effort that sees him cover soaring melodics, hard edged sonics & deep rolling basslines with equal precision. As a 20 year veteran of the drum & bass scene CHRIS.SU is no stranger to such wide ranging sonic output, and such has been the focus of his FATE RECORDINGS imprint since its launch in 2013. The WITHOUT YOU EP marks CHRIS.SU’s first solo release since his Solar Eclipse EP released on 2016, and its clear that these tracks have been crafted with meticulous dedication to his diverse style.

WITHOUT YOU opens the EP alongside the lovelorn vocals of FEDORA which glide effortlessly over a driving beat, creating an experience of cathartic harmony as their sonant cries ring out at the track’s peak. TENSION carries with it a harsher attitude whilst still immersed in a sea of harmonic pads, the graceful undulations of which give way to the shifting movements of a fierce bassline that winds its way through the track’s sonic mileu. RAINDUST, the EP’s collaborative effort with NYMFO, tracks a course between the poles of the previous tracks. Herein, cascades of ephemeral vocals pervade the spaces between a deep rolling bassline as it moves through the track’s spacious sonic environment. The EP is then closed by the liquid mix of the titular WITHOUT YOU, amplifying the track’s emotive atmosphere atop the steady pulses of its refashioned bassline.

With the WITHOUT YOU EP, CHRIS.SU returns with a dynamic flourish of his musical ability, touching on multiple styles of drum and bass while crafting them to fit his signature sound. French drum & bass producer The Clamps has become more and more of an identifiable force, with his forthcoming EP on veteran Prolix’s Trendkill Records quickening his pace to the top echelons. The Clamps production has often been an enviable trait, something which the artist has been refining over the past few years; this hasn’t gone unnoticed by the heaviest hitters within drum & bass, which is why he came under the radar of Prolix. And The Clamps fits well within Prolix’s growing arsenal of producers, something which the head honcho has also spent years refining. When it comes to the genre’s darker sounds, Trendkill is a go-to imprint, dominating both charts and DJ sets during its expansion. With a host of main-stay labels already ticked off by Prolix himself, it made sense for him to build a musical hub which highlighted the sounds influencing his own output.

Since the late 90s, The Clamps has spent his time pouring over the intricacies of everything from hard techno to drum & bass. After initially making a name for himself on homegrown label Kosen Production, he’s become more and more of a pivotal figure throughout the wider music circuit. Now having released on imprints such as Invisible, Titan, Eatbrain and Impact Music, his forthcoming ‘I Feel’ EP is a return to form, following the explosion of his ‘The Odyssey’ LP in 2018.

First track ‘No Reality’ creates an intro which is instantly encapsulating with its steppy instrumentals and patches of waif-like samples. Once it drops, through its pounding drum stabs, you’re taken directly into the belly of the best. Title-track ‘I Feel’ is just as chaotic, tearing through with robotic vocal interludes. ‘Mind Exploration’ runs through next, with an old-school reminiscing as you’re yet again released against its manic mechanics. ‘Interaction’ is the final track, foreboding as it begins to wheel you towards its first climatic breakdown. Each punching horn takes you in deeper before its sci-fi atmospherics leave you to its driving ferociousness.

Trendkill Records are back, with help from The Clamps - proving that the next year is titled to be one of their biggest yet.

‘17 years of Mainframe Recordings’ album. The LP features an eye watering 18 tracks, all of which provide a snapshot into how the imprint has evolved over the course of its expansion. Including newcomer artists who Mainframe are currently investing in, as well as those who Mainframe have had play at their raucous club nights, there’s a host of tastes catered for. And with a name like Disaszt at the helm, the album, the label and its events have been in good hands. 
Tracks like Ripple’s ‘Stranger’, Wingz ‘Definite’, and Halflow’s ‘Progressive ID’ set the mood, showing the talent which Mainframe have at their fingertips when it comes to the fresher waters of drum & bass. Then Mainframe frequenters Dubape, Phentix, Alibi and Smooth pull you into their expert riddims throughout its track listing. Breakpitt & Tenchu offers something different throughout the soundscape of ‘Flashfreeze’ whilst Picota & Kumbh’s ‘Contact’ continues the moodier vibes. Tobax’s cutthroat style is prevalent throughout ‘Overback’ and the head honcho Disaszt returns with Dorian for ‘Boom’. Tuff Gee & Carter’s ‘Pimp Ride’, Manta’s ‘Childhood Memories’, Salaryman’s ‘Soul Reminder’, Akov’s ‘Afterlife’ and Counterstrike’s ‘Fearless’ finishes the exclusively new tracks but there’s more to come, with a VIP treatment of TR Tactics and The Clamps ‘Maggot’. 
As an album, it’s a formidable collection of tracks. But when looking at Mainframe’s vast history, they would need such an LP to pay homage to their legacy and ‘17 Years of Mainframe’ certainly delivers. So, sit back and begin your journey through the album, which is sure to bring back memories from the best club nights over recent times.
