With 2022 firmly underway, Dee Montero’s vision for his burgeoning Futurescope imprint continues to build and take shape, with the Belfast-born talent fusing ideas and inspiration across music and beyond across the label’s scheduled material. Fresh from the release of latest single ‘Maya’ to open the year, gaining support from the likes of Sasha, John Digweed and Hernan Cattaneo, the ever-evolving melodic favourite returns home once more as he offers a second preview into his forthcoming album with new single, ‘Satori’. Showcasing a slightly different sound to his usual material, ‘Satori’ welcomes a dive into bright, synth-guided harmonies and sweeping basslines as he paints a blooming picture through vibrant textures and striking sonics. Part 5 of the various artists series is at it again with 5 tracks by 5 different producers and a mixture of feel good party time music and contemplative music. You will hear familiar Running Back names like Storken (this time together with JStaaf) refining their comic tropes (or imagine Foreigner doing house music) next to newcomers like Archie Ward. His Pizza Girl puts musical toppings on a pounding underbelly that wouldn’t be out of place in any warehouse, while Moritz and Amount dial it back a bit. Their respective tracks are gleaming with a special kind of elegant end-of-night euphoria that is hard to come by – and all the nicer if it happens. Remember: trance is a state of mind! Last but not least, Australia’s Jonus Eric delivers an IDM-leaning piece of outsider dance. Hot soup, hot swallow!

German beat craftsman Senior Citizen drops a rugged Funk driven stomper, fusing raw MPC energy with Synthy stabs and low-end weight. Bust A Mic is a head-turning blend of boom bap attitude and dancefloor pressure.

Faffa Bruwer (Cape Town) steps in with two club-focused reworks—twisting the original into a hypnotic shuffle full of percussive flair and late-night tension. From Berlin to the Berg, this one slaps.

The title track from prolific producer James Curd’s debut album ‘Taking All This Time’ is a marker of the quality of the 14-track collection, and one of the new tracks set amongst some of his finest moments to date.
A looping jazz-funk b-line and key sample cut pumps round and round as splashy hi-hats and tense synth whirrs build the mood, before the sweet male vocal refrain is unleashed over a pleasingly mellow melodic progression. The vocal by Shyam P reveals itself more, laying on a honeyed R&B / soul feel to the proceedings before we’re dropped back into that relentless disco groove. Snatches of biting electric pianos intersperse the rhythm, and drawn out sax samples provides a moment of juxtaposition in the break. The overall feel is that of a melancholy summer jam that bridges the gap between multiple genres, concisely reflecting Curd’s tastes in the process.
Alan Dixon (Running Back) ditches the soulful feel for an acid/electro/Italo fusion on his bold remix, setting bubbling acid lines against early '90s piano chords that joyously take centre stage midway through the track.
