As the saying goes, good things come in twos. Fries and gravy, chocolate and peanut butter, brussels sprouts and bacon (seriously, don't knock it till you try it) and now @Secret-Reels and @BetterListenRecords. The A&R masterminds behind the two labels, Lee Dearn and Martín Miguel respectively, have joined forces, not unlike the two heroes Batman and Superman to fight.. well to bring us good music anyway. @SecretListenRecords is the new collaborative effort from the pair and the first release is a four track various artist sampler split in half by artists signed to both parent labels. Secret Reels veterans Chocky and Harry Wolfman make an appearance while Swedish newcomers to the Better Listen roster, Sune and Vitamin D give you a sneak peak of what's to come for the DC-based imprint.

The man of the hour today is @HarryWolfman and quite frankly it's a surprise that it's taken us this long to premiere one of his tunes, as we've been big fans for ages. The London export who has recently been spending some time in Spain appears on the A1 of the record and the track is entitled 'Floozy'. Built around a lovely jazzy flute sample, the aptly named tune has a wicked percussion rhythm behind it, giving it that easy listening character paired with a dance floor ready groove. Some atmospheric flavours and colourful trills pop up throughout as warm chords lend to the pleasant mood while a nonchalant bassline helps keep those feet moving. Quite the doozy, Floozy is just another example of why Harry Wolfman's fantastic sample work paired with his ear for a groove have landed him releases on a number of premier labels in the past.

Detroit-based producer Bale Defoe makes his debut on ELE records with the High Press EP. On the A2, 'Peddy Tendergrass' combines a no-nonsense kick with soulful samples into the perfect way to kickstart your week.

Another very special EP on Al Zanders A to Z label! Teaming up this time with vocalist Sheyi, for a one-off foray into Broken Beat territory.The story of its inspiration begins with a trip to Notting Hill Record & Tape Exchange...

After asking for some broken beat, the assistant ventured a withering opinion that "won't be monotonous enough, try the house music section instead" Turns out it was Phil Asher of Co-op fame - who, after establishing a genuine desire for said genre - sold Al a bunch of West London music which became the influence for this EP.

Allowing Sheyi to shine over a bare bones, syncopated rhythm track on the title cut and an equally stripped down 'Satisfy' Al amps up the groove, with the G.I.T dub, which was made for IG Culture's radio show.

Limited run on these - don't snooze!

The new Outplay release is by young and upcoming dj/producer @cleanfieldmusic, or “Jelle” as his mom calls him. Hailing from Arnhem, the Netherlands, it’s always great to see another talent pop up in the Dutch scene! He has made three super catchy tracks for us, perfect for the summer season! 

First up is the title track “Haute Cuisine”, warm bouncy bass topped with a super infectious lead melody and percussion. If there is a track more suited for the festival season it’s this one for sure! 
“Hot Wheels” races on with a deep rolling groove, fuelled by wahwah rhythm guitars, warm synth chords and arpeggios. 
“Conflict With Clayton” brings another solid groove to the table with scattered vocal samples and multiple synth layers. Scorcher! 

So imagine dancing your ass off to this EP in the sun and feeling fantastic, we sure are!
