Munich-based platform Alternative Fakten are dedicated to putting the city's underground music and arts scene on the map, be that through club nights, live shows, panel talks, art exhibitions, or releases — like the one we've got for you right here. Like their first label outing, the second is another compilation celebrating artists within the city, though this time, they highlight a wealth of contemporary electronic producers who are operating in the spaces between the city's artworld, activist groups and club culture, including Fuel Moon, WLAN and label bosses Tom Zwotausend & Bartoszek.

With songs released on IDA, MMusic, Electrique Music, Electric Shapes, and Whypeopledance in her pocket, as well as upcoming material for Les Yeux Orange and label Needs, Anastasia Zems is conquering the hearts of a worldwide audience with her songwriting and vocals. Born in the legendary scenery of St. Petersburg, in her music Anastasia is chasing a counterpart to that upbringing, the tribal sounds of rainforests that she will take back to the busy clubs of the cities.

Zems started her love affair with electronic music literally in the womb since her mom was working as a nightclub admin at the time. This natural ease within the electronic music arena can be felt in both Anastasia's DJ sets and production.

Coming from a musical family with training in singing, dance, and musical theatre, Anastasia makes music as automatic writing, letting her impulses lead the way, with no apparent goal, and with only a tidy workspace prepared. She will pour a cup of acid run over the tribal cereals switch the tempo up and down, but the instinct-led first-take vocals will always be there, making her a devotee to the process. This vocal-infused signature production is ready for a stand-off with leftfield mid-tempo giants.

For her LAYER, Anastasia shows a lot of character within the before-mentioned tempo field. From seductive tunes, over harsh cyberwar soundtracks, to lunatics taking over the microphone, it's all there packed in a meticulous and challenging flow.

The fourth release in the whypeopledance catalog comes from Montréal’s Laurence Matte, who made a mix for WPD’s LAYER series not so long ago.

Last winter, Laurence found the time to bring to life her introverted slow-burners under the spiritual guidance of legendary racing horse, Monomoy Girl. Another angel overlooking the project is Laurence's closest confidant for as long as she can remember, her grandma Louise, a character that comes alive in the EP's title.

What started as some of her first ever studio sessions quickly took on lives of their own and later materialized into full-fledged chuggers in a friend’s studio, buried deep somewhere in the Montreal snow in the dead of the darkest season.

MR TC and Curses read the book in their own way and take care of the remixes to round out the release. Curses transports us to New York’s Central Park sometime in the ’80s, where we’ll spend a crazy afternoon running around, and tripping balls. In the second iteration, MR TC takes the timid Louise on a healing path, possibly with the help of some acid.

House Of Lucy is the meeting of minds of Warsaw-based friends and producers, TAMTEN, Ivan Bayor & FOPA. A new project conceived and recorded in 2019, while the trio were in Copenhagen, the music on their debut release is a mind altering fusion of sounds: “a place where dub meets new wave, post punk meets house, electro meets jazz.”

Built off the back of, and drawing its name from, the group’s mysterious and sporadic event called "Lucyna" - a local night that brings together DJs and bands from diverse musical backgrounds - their sound mirrors this free form approach and captures the records manifesto, that you can do what you want, the only limit is yourself.

Berlin’s Open Music Lab (OML) presents a new compilation of original material from its diverse community of up-and-coming music producers: Diffraction. Drawing from a dazzling range of electronic genres, driven by a spirit of collaboration, Diffraction captures the potential of an artist community looking fearlessly beyond the mainstream.

The name Diffraction — is a scientific term for the way light or sound waves split and scatter, expanding their range—a perfect metaphor for what transpired at the end of OML’s eight-month Production and Artistic Development programme. Each of these creators took on a series of intensive educational workshops, with the aim of developing their own practice and musical identity. Collaboration was the cornerstone of these workshops, be it with other producers, seasoned industry professionals teaching the course, or their fellow students. With an endless array of fresh perspectives available to them, each producer hit a new level of creative vision. The result is this unique and inspired compilation.

On Diffraction, the artists showcase their individuality, channelling their cultural backgrounds, personal identities and lived experience. The tracks move through many moods and soundscapes, reflecting the journeys of their creators. From ambient slow-burners like SALA’s “What Are You Afraid Of”, to Gamelan-infused poetry from Panasiagirl, Thea’s minimal stomper “Ponderance”, Brasilian-inspired club from King Sleepy, and Palestinian techno from YA Z AN, Diffraction culminates with a euphoric drag anthem that's dying to be lip-synced.

Diffraction embodies the core values of OML: creating a tight-knit community of artists who embark on a creative journey together, sharing knowledge and expertise, and uplifting and encouraging each other on the way, ultimately giving back to the scene as a whole.

Pinkman’s Broken Dreams welcome a new midnight malcontent into the fold, Ernestas Sadau debuts with his first 12”: Gonzo on Tour. Sirens blare, samples hiss in a haze of static before a grizzled snare introduces “Riots in Jail Near Kaunas.” Grubby basslines curl into shards of acid, full figured thump sweetened by fragile bars. “Crackheads from Lyon” is steeped in the traditions of garage bands and D.I.Y. punk. Strings snarl and sneer at crashing drum beats, lonesome notes floating in the surge. The foul tempered “Hiroshima (Acid Breaks Your Body Mix)” demands the flip.
