Rising from the shadows comes a 90-minute blend of hang-tough beats for this latest in the Bassiani Podcast series. This one comes by way of Kaytseng, a Taiwanese transplant in the Netherlands who cut her teeth down under while playing Melbourne’s local circuit. Though the Amsterdam relocation’s only two years old, the move’s already budding a promising path for her sinister sound and bringing her into the European techno fold. Think merciless fast-trance, gritty and thrashing sounds that pack a punch with every beat, it’s a measure of brutal craftwork for footloose and die-hard raving, tough and highly physical. Her warpspeed tempos are racking up a following, and her Berghain debut as part of the CRUDE roster’s reared a long-term residency with the Berlin label to boot. Her sets are fun and quick on the draw and this latest one’s not afraid to show it. Kaytseng delivers an hour and a half of pulse-quickening rhythms that ramp up and roll to the hilt for Bassiani Podcast 262, rattling clicks and primeval bass, apocalypse ready techno that’s breathing fresh life into the global scene. The future of sound is fast approaching and this Taiwan selector’s both emergent defender and catalysing force.

A gifted, sure-handed groove manipulator, Alienata has been carving out a niche for herself as one of the scene’s most reliable DJs in both actual floor impact and mixing skillset. Also curating the ever consistent Discos Atónicos, which she founded in 2017, she keeps on delivering sets that combine a wide array of styles, from dark disco to acid, through D-town electro, industrial and IDM outbursts with equal poise and gusto, time and again. Expert in chiselled transitions and pristine track selections, the Spanish born DJ builds her mixes like one creates mosaics, building a cohesive whole out of disparate rhythmic elements and tempi, while she snaps ankles and flips brains by the dozen along the way. Rill is a DJ and producer from Berlin and the co-head of the label Syntop. With several releases, he continues to showcase his production skills. His sound is best described as timeless techno soundscapes enriched with creative sound design. Drawing inspiration from early 2010s techno, Rill’s track selection blends atmospheric, percussive, and groovy elements. His moderate yet precise use of synths and FX adds depth, resulting in an overall hypnotic and immersive experience.

Kicking off with Nastia Reigel’s massive new remix of his own Disaffected, it showcases three tracks from her upcoming debut album Identity (out September 26 on Infrastructure).

The selection runs wide: from Regis, Rødhâd, LSD, Nørbak, Nastia Reigel, Ignez, Rene Wise, Silent Servant, Alarico and UFO95 to unreleased gems by Filippo Scorcucchi - alongside Function’s own productions, edits and textures.
