Strongly shaped by the raw and forward-leaning sound of 90’s Techno, Milan based artist Alarico Zucchi started his journey into electronic music in 2015 making his way through clubs as a DJ while learning the art of music production. 

The inauguration of ‘Alarico’ occurred in 2019 after previously exploring several sub-genres of Techno. The alias was formed as a statement to showcase a style that was personal to him. Personal in a way that he became captivated within the patterns and structures of his own sound. So-much-so that his multiple our long podcasts solely consisting of his own material made him stand out from a whole host of young and promising producers and DJs. 

Known for fast paced rhythms and kinky grooves he has released music consistently since his debut in 2020 on Joton’s imprint “Newrhytmic Records”. Shortly after he launched his own vinyl imprint “Katana Records”, which showcases the more mental and introverted side of his idea of Techno. He certainly cemented his rank in today’s Techno landscape through releases on Matrixxman’s highly acclaimed “The Grid”, Token Records and sees a bright future with a forthcoming release on SHDW & Obscure Shape’s newest endeavour “Mutual Rytm”. 

Alarico continues to position himself as a unique music lover, exploring the depths and possibilities of sound. He stands for permanently pushing boundaries and stirring this attitude with his background of Hip Hop and Japanese culture.

He later settled on using MZR as his main stage name. Alongside his partner, KETCH, he established the label SYXT, which quickly became known as a vital part of the Berlin techno scene. 
MZR is known for his dynamic and energetic 4 Deck DJ sets, characterized by fast, groovy, and loop-based techno.

This week on FMB Mixtape Series, we’re happy to welcome the vinyl-only DJ & music producer, Tarkno, hailing from Australia. As always, we first caught up to find out more about the mix & what he’s been up to lately…

I am currently getting ready to head back on tour in Europe and play some exciting events. This means a lot of packing, organizing and planning has been taking place.

The mix was actually recorded back in my home studio, in Melbourne, Australia during my holiday break. This gave me access to my entire record collection, so I made sure to select some hidden gems that hadn’t made their way into my bag yet. 

The idea for this mix was to play strictly old school tools from my personal collection. All of the records resonate deeply with me, embodying the true sound of underground techno. While the mix has a consistent theme I made sure to include a few staple tracks that I have enjoyed playing out recently.

"I’ve been really enjoying playing ‘Bloom’ from up and coming Berlin producer Symbolism on PTHM recently. It’s an immersive and rolling techno track with a dark and dub’y atmosphere. You hear a bit of the dub sound coming back at the moment which is nice, but this is the way I like it over the more chord driven dryer sounding stuff. It’s quite versatile, intriguing and very adaptable for DJ’ing with."

Chris Cario is based in Munich and one of the founders of HOLEY. Chris traveled to a lot of countries as a child and has encountered many different societies and subcultures at an early age. This influences his work as DJ till today. His music brings hypnotic and energetic techno to the dance floor, mixed with psychedelic textures, upbeat house and haunting vocals. Chris doesn't stick to one style, he easily masters playing different genres and so he can deliver different feelings and textures with his sets.
