The new year starts with a mix by one of my favourite artists and producers Daria Lourd aka Bored Lord. She has been on my radar for her relentless and beautifully crafted mixes and edits for about 3 years and I am happy that Daria is the first artist in 2022 to contribute to the mix series. Apart from being a glamorous figure and well renowned DJ in the night clubs of NYC, San Francisco, LA, her hometown Oakland and beyond, Daria started self-releasing her own productions and edits back in 2018. She uses her vast influences spanning several decades of music and genres to produce her own tracks and combines them with samples from TV series, movies, pop songs and rave anthems but also collaborated with producer, singer and performance artist IDHAZ for her EP They Never Taught Us To. Daria’s first production outside of her own bandcamp, The Last Illusion EP, came out in September 2021 on Eris Drew’s and Octo Octa’s T4T LUV NRG. It was the first release that was not produced by either one of the co-founders of the label. Her motivation for this expansive creative output comes from keeping the tradition and craft of DJing and edits alive, giving people something to dance to and allowing room for whatever process might come out of that but also utilizing her craft for her own expression and world building. Love this! 
Bored Lord is working on a full length album and several collaborational EPs with friends at the moment, so keep your eyes and ears open.

This is a quote from a Threads Radio interview done on March 23rd 2021 with the founders of the collective: Our collective centers q/t/b/i/poc voices because of this erasure; we try to elevate Black + Brown queer + trans DJs and producers at our events to uplift and inspire our communities, and to take back what has – especially in the Bay area – been largely gentrified to the point that most people here think of techno as a ‘white thing’. So for us it’s largely a reclaiming of something that we know we are a part of and belong to and that our elders created, heeding a felt call to expand and continue that lineage of creativity. A man who needs little introduction, Southampton born techno legend Alan Fitzpatrick has spent the last decade carving out his musical niche and holding rank in the upper echelons of the underground electronic world. Few artists can claim to have headlined Berghain and also had a hit on daytime BBC Radio 1, but then there aren’t many artists like Alan Fitzpatrick. 

One of the most popular techno DJs in the world, he has rubbed shoulders with the likes of Carl Cox and Adam Beyer for the best part of a decade, performing at the world’s biggest clubs and festivals. Known primarily for his raw hard-edged sound, Alan has developed into one of dance music’s most versatile producers, equally at home putting out techno bangers on Drumcode as he is making disco-infused house anthems, or experimental electronica under his 3STRANGE alias, not to mention his impressive range of collaborations (including CamelPhat, Skream, Sasha, Rebūke and Jamie Jones). 

The We Are The Brave and Apex Faction label don adopts a no nonsense approach to A&R and in 5 short years Alan has welcomed some of Techno’s finest producers to his fold. The Englishman champions the musical output of both established artists and breakthrough alike, accumulating over 50 million Spotify Streams on We Are The Brave records since its inception in 2016. Fast-forward to 2021 and the southern powerhouse shows no sign of slowing down, his passion for music permeating all aspects of his career. The WATB frontman is renowned for curating an evening of exceptional magnitude, having already showcased his roster’s talent at The Warehouse Project, Shine Belfast, SWG3 Glasgow and the infamous Fabric nightclub in London.
