this was written in 2014 for my first record A Promise (which, along with Homoti, i've been working on for *two* years AKA *TOO* fuckin long) while i was living in wainfleet, ontario which is a really gross mostly white redneck populated area where the only good radio station is either CBC radio or that one radio station that plays sarah mclachlan's building a mystery over 60 times a day for no reason

i became influenced by some of the people who lived in wainfleet and how they were basically fuckups in the middle of nowhere with nothing to do and often burnt bridges with their family members who became estranged with them many years before, i spent many days in the wainfleet library speaking to people in their 60s, hoping that my life never ends up as fucked up as theirs. i wrote this song in the point of view of someone who is estranged from his family and has been for decades, his family members have acheived accomplishments but yet feel like they don't deserve any good will, and he doesn't ask them why they feel that way about themselves because they are estranged from them and thus don't have any contact with them. 

i referenced poets and artists and writers in this song, the first verse references phil ochs, one of his songs is called I Ain't Marching Anymore. i referenced some female poet in the second verse (i don't really remember if it was sylvia plath or some other woman), and the third verse references "tortured or starving" writers who sometimes write or wrote depressing stuff like kurt cobain or david sedaris (who is a comedic writer but at some times is very bleak and morose) and of course, sartre. the second verse is also a reference to my mother who i came across a notebook of her writings from 1990-1991 wherein she was 19 and seemingly had aspirations for writing, but she stopped writing stuff like that once my brother was conceived in 1993 because she became a mother and no longer had time for that stuff anymore. this is a re-recording of the song, i initially shared a cassette recording of a demo of why on my somelittleboyinblue soundcloud in early 2015, it sounds like poop, this one sounds better. watch out.
