Reconstructed by Keith Pawlak, Curator, Nelson Riddle Collection at the University of Arizona.   

The 1960 blockbuster Can-Can starred Frank Sinatra, Shirley MacLaine, Maurice Chevalier, Louis Jourdan and introduced Juliet Prowse.  It features Riddle’s arrangements of many of Cole Porter’s most enduring songs. Even more inspired is the 12-minute ballet score throughout which Riddle weaves Porter’s “I love Paris.”  In the sensuous ymphonic prelude depicting idyllic life in the Garden of Eden, Riddle evokes Ravel’s Daphnis et Chloé, a poignant homage in a film celebrating Paris. Things heat up as MacLaine’s Eve receives the apple from the seducing serpent--a sinuous English horn solo accompanied by exotic, Arabic-influenced harmonies.  The couple’s partaking of the fateful apple gives way  to raucous Big-Band Era dance, which featured choreography risqué for its time. During the filming, Soviet premier Nikita Khrushchev famously visited the 20th Century Fox studios and made propagandistic use of his visit, describing the dance, and by extension, American culture as "depraved" and "pornographic.”

I’ve only played vinyl but I’m away to buy digital as it’s the way forward even though I think anyone can do digital , TECHNICS MK 2 you needed skills to beat match and read a record . So hopefully you will hear me back in clubs soon .Used to play regular  in the 90’s - 2000.
