[05/07/2025] The Manner the Muslims Fast the Day of 'Āshūrā is Different to the Jews - By Abu Idrees Muhammad Khān حفظه الله. Khuṭbah at Masjid As-Sunnah An-Nabawiyyah, Aston, Birmingham, UK.

Some points discussed during this Khuṭbah:

– The benefits of the supererogatory fasts outside of Ramadan.

– The virtues of fasting in the month of Al-Muharram.

– Focus on the 10th day of Al-Muharram – the Day of Āshūra.

– The reward of fasting this day is forgiveness of sins of the previous year.

– The reason for singling out the 10th day of Muharram for fasting.

– The Jews of Madinah were fasting this day and explained that this day is a great day as Allah saved Musa and his people from Fir’own by splitting the sea.

– Musa fasted to show gratitude to Allah.

– Prophet ‎ﷺ said that the Muslims are closer to the Prophet Musa than the Jews so he commanded to fast this day and the day before it to differ from the Jews.

– The shariah of Islam encourages us to be different from the Jews and the Christians in all of our affairs.

– In this day Muslims resemble the non-Muslims and even justify their actions with Islam.

– The strongest opinion is the permissibility of fasting on Saturday alongside another day.

– Advice to be cautious with the hadith: “Whoever resembles a people then you are from them.”

Khutbah: Calling to Tawheed

– Encouragement to study Al-Islam. 
– Text: Second Principle- Knowledge of the religion of Islam with Proofs. It is to submit to Allah with tawhid, and to yield obediently to Him, and to free and disassociate oneself from shirk and its people. And it is of three levels: Islam, Iman and Ihsan. Each level has its pillars.
The first level: The pillars of Islam are five: The testification that none has the right to be worshipped exept Allah, and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah; to establish the Prayer; to pay the zakat; to fast Ramadan; and to make hajj to the sacred House of Allah.
So the proof for the testification is the saying of Allah, the Most High, “Allah bears witness that none has the right to be worshipped but Him; and likewise the angels and the people of knowledge bear witness: He who maintains justice, none has the right o be worshipped but Him, the All Mighty, the All-Wise.” [Surah Ali-Imran (3):18]

All the pillars of Imaan are connected and refer back to the first pillar, the belief in Allah. With Imaan comes the action.
  
Islamic knowledge is what Allah has said and what His messenger صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم said not what we desire. Those people that have knowledge but don't act upon it, are the people who have earned Allah’s anger. 
 
The Muslim who oppresses the others is weak in Imaan. The people should be safe from the tongue and the hands of the Muslim. Worst of the people are those from whom other people stay away due to evil.     
 
The majority of people that will be punished in the graves due to lack of hygiene while urinating
