'Shameer' is the new project of Shamir Abderraman, a producer and DJ from the Canary Islands known in the local clubbing scene under the name of Sam AM. This new project was born in 2018 as he developed an interest in his family history and roots, digging deeper into the cultural and sonic legacy of the Arab countries.
With this as a starting point, Shameer brings together traditional Arab melodies and instrumentation with modern percussive elements from club-oriented music, giving way to a more personal sound to bring homage to his roots on contemporary dancefloors.
An example of this is 'Waha', the first single that gives name to his next EP. In it, the mysterious and delicate arab chants that open the track are combined with the sounds of the darbukka and the zurna, together with the low-end frequencies common to UK Bass music. This sonic mix invites you to close your eyes and take you on a journey in the desert night while you are on the dancefloor.
