The first edition of the Medicine Radio Show features some old and new Funk and Soul treasures - all mixed by J Rocc - legendary turntablist and founding member of the World Famous Beat Junkies. From the celebrated American Jazz and Rock fusion band Stark Reality to the raw German Afro-Funk group The Whitefield Brothers, and the sixties student group Kashmere Stage Band which became famous after been sampled by Handsome Boy Modeling School and DJ Shadow: the man from Southern California digged deep in his record case and prepared a thrilling mix that grooves with an organic party starting flow.

Carhartt WIP Radio October 2012: J Rocc - Medicine Radio Show Pt. 1

This month Carhartt WIP Radio proudly presents a show by Honest Jon’s records, the label behind the legendary London based record shop. Music connoisseurs call it London’s ultimate record collector’s paradise, and, to many local music-addicts, it is like a second home where they can share their love of music with the family of experts behind the counter. Honest Jon’s originally opened in 1974 on Golborne Road in London's Ladbroke Grove, moving around the corner five years later onto the famous Portobello Road, where it has built up a reputation over the years as a stomping ground for record collectors, music lovers, producers, and musicians from all around the world. In 2001 storeowners Mark Ainley and Alan Scholefield, founded together with Damon Albarn from Blur and Gorillaz Honest Jon’s records. The label is a kind of musical mirror of all those sounds that have always been available at the shop. In a “blinkers-off” approach, their release list covers lost reggae, old and new Afro, variations of jazz, calypso, and folk that have long been forgotten by popular culture, as well as contemporary Folk, dance, and the new electronic avant-garde. For Carhartt WIP Radio, Honest Jon's co-owner Alan Scholefield selected some music from this profuse catalogue, which staffer Budgie then mixed into a special multidimensional narrative, in which every track tells a story of its own, spanning a time period from the fifties to the present.
