Technasia started out as a duo in 1997, consisting of Hong Kong native Amil Khan and French artist Charles Siegling. The duo had a lot of success with their wide-ranging techno releases on their own labels Sino and Technasia Records, as well as on respected labels like Music Man Records and Glass Splinters.
In 2008, Khan left the group to raise a child and since then Technasia has lived on as a solo project of Siegling's. Technasia joined the Cadenza roster in January 2012, and 'Heart of Flesh' is Siegling's first release on the label.
With techno as a central blueprint for his rhythmical structures, Siegling explores three different moods on this EP that show Technasia's wide-ranging, more global approach to techno.
The first track, 'Heart of Flesh', is an uptempo percussion-driven groove and features a spoken-word diva sample that Siegling manages to twist into delay heaven before throwing us off an almighty precipice. What follows is a late night, rolling tech house river that is impossible to escape. Like a torrent of white water beats, 'Heart of Flesh' pulls you under the surface with powerful undercurrents. Fans of tougher, more driving rhythms will appreciate the track is a gear above Cadenza's usual cool cruising speed.
The second track 'Octaval' is less beat-centric and more musical. With a symphony of machine sounds combining into a song of sorts, the track is subtle and intelligent organic techno. With jovial notes that dance with a spring in their step, the pitter patter of downtrodden drums beneath leads us to a raw, futuristic tribal dance. Technasia throws in some indecipherable Spanish female vocals, which could easily have come from a sleazy Ibiza house cut circa 2001.
Final track 'Michigan Ride' hints at Motor City's past with warm dissonant stabs and a melodic underbelly. The loop Technasia builds is trippy, but it never forgets its purpose. Slowly pushing the dancefloor along, inch-by-inch, the cut slices through the early morning haze like a warm knife through butter. Touching on Berlin's new school dub techno sounds, Technasia also repeats intermittently, via a robotic vocal sample, the word "house", its meaning lost beneath the layers of genreless beats.

The next Moon Harbour release comes from the label’s radio show host Dan Drastic in conjunction with Smallville and Cargo edition alumni Sven Tasnadi. The pair met up last summer and fall to record the three originals that make up the EP, and the results are deep and dubby house music that comes complete with a remix from Dutchman and Soweso & We Dig associate, Kabale Und Liebe. 

“Snip” opens the EP with a lazy and lo slung groove that ebbs to and fro as squelchy machines noises are smeared over the face. An undecipherable vocal lurks in the shadows and the dusty percussion adds enough bite to drive things along without ever breaking out of a deep-set rhythm.  Building to a peak, the beats stand taller as things progress and a circling female coo adds some restrained euphoric notes as those machines continue to gurgle throughout.  In Kabale Und Liebe’s hands the same track is much more kinetic and up tempo, with pinging kicks and stabbed chords darting about from start to finish.

Next up, “Downstairs” is again propped up on a warm and pillow-y bed of dubby beats and soft edged, frayed percussion.  It’s a humid groove that begins to get loose from the mid-point when a meandering bassline rolls up and down through the mix as silvery hi hats slice up the groove to bring some height to proceedings. It’s funky, cheeky house perfect for the early – or super late – hours of any basement party. 

Finally, “Wrong Answer” stands most up right of them all; with big, firm kicks skipping along below some organic and romantic melody work in the style of the aforementioned Hamburg label Smallville. Cuddly yet purposeful, this is heartfelt house music and no mistake.

The influential German duo of Marco Resmann and Norman Weber return to their most frequent home for a new EP of typically floor facing house music, complete with a devastating remix from label head Matthias Tanzmann. Luna City Express sure do know how to rock a party, and they have done for almost the last decade at the finest underground establishments around the world. 

First track here, Magic Bazar, is a no nonsense bomb from the off. Rooted in a dirty groove it bounces tautly until an obscured male voice sets everything on fire. It’s impossible not to imagine heads bobbing in unison to this one. 

Moon Harbour boss Matthias Tanzmann’s remix is a much more riotous affair, with rough edged percussion, angry claps and snares and a trippy melody all bristling around each: crowds will be in a controlled frenzy, for sure. 

There’s a touch of garage-y Kerri Chandler percussion to Are You Ready, which ducks and dives on a thick bassline, full of futuristic robot energy. It’s functional yet fun, and so is the lush last track I Don’t Think So. Full of warm, bright synths, old school broken beat energy and a hip hop looseness, it’s full of joy and puts a lot of stale modern house music to shame. 

This is the latest chapter in a long relationship between Moon Harbour and Luna City Express and it’s one that provides discerning DJs with plenty of firepower.
