The State of Israel was created almost 80 years ago in response to an attempted genocide. We are now watching a genocide of the Palestinian people in real time on our tv screens. This is happening with the collusion of democratic  governments. How did we descend to this?
This acoustic guitar improvisation is by 3 guitars based on '4+ 20'. I had intended to write a protest song about the war, but I cannot find the words. This is inadequate, we should all speak up to condemn this barbarity however small our voices are.

Passing Away

"A musical vision of Winter and the silence deep within it's heart. But there is still beauty to be found and life goes on despite the dark and the cold."

Description

My first truly orchestral composition, Winter, finds me trying to express, in music, my feelings about this season. Below is a attempt at doing this  in words too. This is the first of hopefully four orchestral pieces that describe the four temperate seasons of the year.

Winter 
As you travel deep into the heart of Winter, life slowly withdraws for a time. Not defeated, just resting for a while. New life will be reborn as the nights get shorter after the solstice.

But for now, you walk out into it's heart and reflect on the austere beauty this season brings. Water frozen over and castles made of ice. A fellow traveller hunched against the cold nods as you walk by.

The magic of Christmas quickly fades into the chill of the New Year. A time of renewal and vows of friendship and peace.

Nature is holding it's breath, ready to be be reborn with the light of the sun.

Dynamics was a key part of this composition as was tempo. The tempo slowly decreases as the track goes on to give a feeing of everything slowing down as Winter moves on. Only very subtle but its there. 

I wanted a more delicate arpeggio sound later on so the piano was replaced with harp harmonics, that gives a change of sound when I needed it.

I find improvisation the absolute revelation of the "present". Unrepeatable, true. In that moment everything vibrates, emotion, souls and our bodies, thus becoming part of "Being". The approach to my compositions is always the result of an extemporaneous flow that takes on a more granite form only at the end of the session. The musicians who collaborate with me embrace this method, leaving carte blanche to their inner voice and my creativity.
