Favorite Sets

I would like to pay tribute to Nacho Varela & Cruz Vittor, a producer duo based in Argentina. 

They have been producing and playing music for several years and are well-known for their original productions and remixes.

Their sets are characterized by their emotive and atmospheric style, which combines elements of melodic techno, deep- organic- progressive house, and electronica. 

I am particularly impressed with their releases on Shanti Radio, which I have featured in this set alongside some of my other favorites.

Nacho Varela & Cruz Vittor

Behind N-tchbl stands Marija Nikolić, born and raised in southeastern Serbia. War and politics colored atmosphere of '90s in her country almost naturally led her to growing fond of moody sounds of Pink Floyd, Joy Division, Radiohead, Depeche Mode, Nirvana, The Cure... music that has left a deep scar in her unique musical taste that shows no less of its presence even in her today's sound.

At the beginning of 00's names like Deep Dish, Hernan Cattaneo, John Digweed, Nick Warren, Sasha, Dave Seaman led her to a crucial cognition - progressive house with a distinct bass line and sublime emotion, knitted with melodies colouring the background was the sound that suits her the most. Progressive house was something she wanted to live and love.

In 2008th the diversity and uniqueness of music she compiled in her sets became recognized by one of the leading booking agencies from Belgrade. Soon many Serbian clubs wanted to book her as an uprising DJ star, that led to her numerous appearances in major Serbian venues in next couple of years. One good thing led to another and easily she became the first Serbian female progressive house DJ to gain international attention, receiving booking inquiries from all around the globe: Cacao Beach "Solar Summer" festival, Sofia's Escape club (listed at that moment in Top 10 clubs in DJ Mag), Egypt, Lebanon, Ministry of sound event in India, Canada's Stereo Montreal, to name just a few. Playing as a headliner and support act of many famous DJs in highly respected venues and festivals in Serbia and across the region made her unique music style admired by many fans from around the globe. Her sets were broadcasted on all of the major worldwide radio stations, and after a dozen of guest mixes on her all-time-favourite friskyRadio, including respectful “Artist Of The Week” show, her last dream came true – in March 2011th she became a part of friskyRadio roster!

"SUBLIMINAL" brought her the opportunity to present the whole new side of deep, dark, sublime side of progressive house, the show gained support from many iconic progressive house artists and gathered a fan base from Europe to Middle East, USA and South America. Every month on 3rd Mondays she delivers fresh stories by combining distinct, peculiar melodies with both emotional and wicked, rock solid tunes, doing it all the female way. As a sign of uniqueness Marija often brings traditional and oriental sounds, vocals and instruments into her sets to stay in touch with her southern roots, something that easily makes her stand out from all other DJs so you know it's N-tchbl when you bump into her sets, and no one else does it this way. Exactly this skill, to subtly combine deep, organic, oriental and rock solid progressive sounds made her famous among underground progressive crowds around the globe. Years after she's still resisting to fall under the influence of new musical trends, devoted to not let that unique sound of progressive house ever be forgotten.

After almost a decade of break, she returned with selected live performances in her country, warmed up and closed parties and festivals in 2022nd with legends like Sébastien Léger, Sebastian Busto, East Cafe, uprising progressive superstar DJ Ruby and soon she might hit your neighborhood too so keep in touch with her schedule.

XYZ Selectors 094 - Houce

This is my tribute to Hipólito Salinas aka Polo (AR), who is born in a small beach town known as Pinamar on the coast of Argentina. 

From a very young age, music surrounded him, thanks to countless family road trips with his loved ones and the constant CD playlists curated by his dad. Around the age of 10, he discovered Guitar Hero, and from that moment onward, his life revolved around music. He delved into guitar lessons, joined bands, and eventually pursued formal music studies, which he continues in the vibrant city of Buenos Aires.

It was in Buenos Aires that he was introduced to the world of electronic music and discovered the depth of Argentina's music scene. Despite the challenges posed by a pandemic, he persevered, and life rewarded him with the opportunity to forge deep connections with talented artists, some of whom he now proudly calls friends.

Today, he finds himself immersed in the ever-evolving journey of music, cherishing every moment of learning and growth.

Portek Universe #05

This set emerges from an inner journey, a path in search of light amidst shadows. In a time where emotions intertwine like deep roots, music has become my way of transforming these feelings into sonic landscapes. Through this session, I wish to convey to those who feel the weight of their own labyrinths the need to seek a space where one can find release and allow energy to renew itself, revealing what lies hidden behind the veil of uncertainty.

Each track has been carefully chosen to weave a narrative that blends the delicacy of organic and ambient sounds with the strength and intensity of Progressive House. This sonic journey was born from my connection with nature during an introspective walk through the native forests of Miramar, Buenos Aires, where the calm and pure energy of the surroundings allowed me to reconnect with my essence. Throughout the set, the sounds evoke the serenity and power of nature, beginning with an introduction that invites the listener to step into a landscape where the soul can breathe deeply and, without fear, explore the unknown.

BIO EN :

Xavier aka Alca[Wax]Line is a French DJ , born and raised in Lyon - now based in La Réunion Island. 

His passion for music and rhythm started as a young age and grew deeper during his teenage years, when he founded a rock/metal band for which he would be a drummer for over 10 years. 

At age 23, he attends his first rave party. Discovering this universe feels like a true inner revolution. He rapidly fully immerses himself in this newly-found underground culture, eager to discover the wide range of sounds it has to offer. Navigating the European alternative scenes for years, he gains extensive experience and knowledge in electronic music and its industry. As he travels and meets new people, he also progressively refines his style and his musical orientations. 

Counting on his passion and experience, he starts DJing himself. He buys his first controller and rapidly starts performing at different venues and events in the Lyon area. Meanwhile he joins the “Diana Hutch” project as a drummer. 

Although being naturally drawn to Techno and Transe, his current project is slower : through his sets, we wishes to share his love for oriental and African sounds. Alca[Wax]Line offers a progressive and rhythmic House, delivered along with percussions and tribal instruments. His style flirts between an Organic House - ethnic and melodious - a rhythmic AfroHouse and deep drops, reminding those of Techno and Progressive music. 

He recently moved to the Réunion Island and joined a growing collective, “Les Voisines”, which gave him the opportunity to perform at quite a few Free Parties and bars already. More passionate and inspired than ever, Alca[Wax]Line is ready and excited to share his musical universe with his new home.

Xavier aka Alca[Wax]Line est un Dj né à Lyon.
Ancien batteur et membre d’un groupe de Rock/Métal pendant plus de 10 ans, cette expérience a fait naître en lui l’amour de la musique et du rythme.

C’est à l’âge de 23 ans qu’il va participer à sa première Rave Party et découvrir cet univers musical, qui sonne comme une révolution intérieure. Il va alors s’intéresser à cette scène underground et s’en imprégner quotidiennement, toujours avide de nouvelles découvertes sonores.
Il se met alors à fréquenter les scènes alternatives d’Europe, ce qui va lui permettre d'accroître sa connaissance en musique électronique et d’en acquérir les codes.

Au fil de ses voyages et rencontres, il affine progressivement son style et son orientation musicale.
Fort de ses expériences, il décide de se lancer dans le Djing, achète son premier contrôleur et obtient très vite ses premières dates sur la région lyonnaise. Il collabore en parallèle sur le projet « Diana Hutch », en tant que batteur.

Bien qu’ayant une préférence pour la Techno et la Transe à l’origine, son projet se veut plus lent. A travers ses sets, il souhaite transmettre son amour pour les sonorités orientales et africaines.
Alca[Wax]Line propose une House progressive et rythmée, accompagnée de percussions et d’instruments tribales.
Son style flirte entre une OrganicHouse, ethnique et mélodieuse, une AfroHouse rythmée et des drops profondes, rappelant celles de la musique Techno et Progressive.

Récemment, il emménage sur l’île de la Réunion, et rejoint un collectif en plein essor, « Les Voisines », qui lui permet de se produire rapidement lors de Free Party et plus récemment dans des bars.
Alca[Wax]Line est bien décidé à faire découvrir son univers musical loin de sa métropole natale.
