Have you ever run across a person who has these little quirks and oddities that pulled you in until you were lost.  One person’s ‘perfect’ can often be another’s repulsion.  “Perfect” written by Kim Cameron, is this exact story.  Back to her deep house jam, this tune has light airy vocals, a solid beat and memorable hook lines.  Another release as a part of her “All Love” collection.

ERIC ALEXANDRAKIS Silver Moon [A Tribute To Michael Nesmith]

Produced, performed, recorded and arranged by Eric Alexandrakis in first takes on a 16-track recorder.

On December 10, 2021, pioneering songwriter Michael Nesmith [The Monkees],
who is also the inventor of MTV, and a major influence upon the development of  the home video market, passed away at  the  age of 78.  His  passing  has  left  a  hole  in  the  world,  but  his influence lives on forever.

As a songwriter and overall innovator, Nez has been a great influence upon my music.  His passing affected me greatly and pushed me to record a cover of his solo classic “Silver Moon” from his 1970 album LOOSE SALUTE.  I’ve been wanting to record this song for many years, but as life tends to get in the way, I suddenly found myself drawn to giving Nez a send-off to his next cosmic journey, in my own way.  So I fired up my 16-track recorder, played all of the instruments myself in first  takes to keep it spontaneous, singing through guitar pedals, and released my version of “Silver Moon” 20 days after Nez’s passing...on his birthday.

Created by Grammy®-nominated composer Tom Nazziola, “Immovable Do” (pronounced "dough") features a soaring, relentless marimba pattern (almost etude-like), which is joined by an equally aggressive and supportive djembe part - both exploring different accents and phrases governed by elements of African and Indian music. The “tongue-in-cheek” title refers to the anchoring of harmony by a recurring low “C” or “Do” (as used in solfege). The stable repetition of C eventually makes its way to C# (still considered “Do” in the solfege system) allowing for a shift in harmonic perspective thanks to a play on words and pitch license (if you will).

This piece is built on a simple melody that oscillates back and forth over lulling accompaniment. These two parts have different characters – one lyrical, the other slightly mechanical - so there is a feeling that the lullaby is tilted, or off center. Brief interruptions – some with a music box-like character, others by rapid, quiet passages – contribute to this sense of unease.  As the piece unfolds, the melody is passed between the upper and lower voices as a dialogue, while a central section presents a chorale before returning to the original melody. – Ronald Pearl

Ronald Pearl’s compositions have been performed, recorded, and broadcast throughout North and South America, Europe, and Asia. He has been commissioned by the Alturas Duo, Triobio, Duo Vitare, Encuerdas, the Atlantic Guitar Quartet, Quartetto Exsacorde, the ADAA Trio, Zane Forshee and others. His works have been presented at the Saigon Guitar Festival, Guimaraes International Guitar Festival (Portugal), Festival Forfest of the Czech Republic, Peabody Summer Intensive, Shepherd International Guitar Festival, Evolution Contemporary Music Series (Baltimore), and LiveWire6 Music Festival. 

His output includes works for solo guitar, multiple guitars, chamber ensembles, choir, and piano.  My Name is Red, for solo guitar, has received performances on four continents. Be Not Afeard: Music from Prospero's Island – commissioned and recorded by the Atlantic Guitar Quartet - prompted American Record Guide to write, “This is truly beautiful music”, and “This disc is worth acquiring for this work alone.” Other artists to record his music include Zane Forshee, 1East Guitar Quartet, Robert Trent, Drake Duffer, and the Avanti Guitar Trio. 

Ronald Pearl is a Professor Emeritus of Loyola University Maryland where he taught courses in music history, theory, and directed Guitar studies.

WHEN IT COMES TO STRINGS - Avra Banerjee, Biplav Singh

Aaron Larget-Caplan, a classical guitarist who has premiered over 110 compositions, directs the Spanish dance ensemble ¡Con Fuego!, and is the founder and curator of the New Lullaby Project, which includes three albums and two volumes of scores published in partnership with the American Composers Alliance. Larget-Caplan’s arrangements and recording of the music of John Cage are issued by Edition Peters and Stone Records and are the first for guitar to be sanctioned by the estate and have received international accolades. He has eight acclaimed solo albums. The first of his own compositions honey cadence was released in April 2022. An album dedicated to Bach will be issued in 2022.
