Part 1 of the 7 hour set I played for Dan Darby's 50th birthday bash with a wonderful group of new (old - depending on how you look at it...) dear friends on Kauai.  Many more of these to come!!

Dan50Fest • Sunday Seven Hour Set • Part1

Sven and I found ourselves in the Verrückt Hoch Zwei recording studio, with Sven stationed in the control room and me..... working my magic on the drum kit, creating my groove.

Every time, Sven would inform me of the next layer we planned to record. Once we were ready, we began the live recording process. We pressed the recording button, assigned the recorded elements to specific pads, and transformed them into loops. For instance, the bass line could be assigned to the outer rim of the floor tom. Since I don't typically hit that part of the drum kit, it provided the perfect opportunity to utilize a pre-recorded sample.

It took us a total of 10 hours to construct the audio, carefully refining and perfecting each layer and loop.

Unfortunately, despite our efforts, we never actually did anything with the recordings. However, instead of letting them go to waste, I decided to release them into the world. This particular recording session utilized Native Instruments Battery 3, Tama Iron Cobra pedals, and perhaps surprisingly, even some beef jerky.

In summary, our time spent in the Verrückt Hoch Zwei recording studio was dedicated to crafting an intricate audio composition. Although it remained unused, I saw it fit to unleash it into the wild, where it could exist and resonate with others.

Behind the song: The part Keith played, (the beat he plays) was called "Rise" and Sven saved the file as Storm Drum (duh) : Rise. So that's what we will call it. :P

My goal is to invoke a more powerful and authentic form of ecstatic expression, both individually and for the collective dance community.
