I loved reading Brandon Sanderson's new novel Skyward. Here was a theme of Spensa dreaming of seeing the stars amidst adversity. 

Also, this hasn't been mixed yet. I am still learning how to do it, so I am going to find some time to rent studio time with a buddy so he can help teach me some of the fundamentals of mixing.

Dreaming Skyward (Preview) - Song #5 of 2020

This week has been absolutely crazy. I work for the largest news website in Utah, and between Coronavirus closures and Utah's first earthquake in a long, long time, it has been a hell of a ride.

So I am counting my Pianobook Pianoday submission for my song towards my goal. It is crazy simple, but on to the next one.

#PianobookPianoDay2020 Submission - Song #6 of 2020

Two weeks ago, I wanted to write something a little more inspiring and hopeful. There was a lot of bad news going around, and I knew it would get worse.

I started writing this imagining a sunrise, feeling the light slowly escape over the mountain and cascading down with warmth. As the week went on, and I shared clips with co-workers, one of them commented: "this sounds like the end of a movie where they show that everyone will be okay and live on."

I liked that, and it stuck. All of us are in some form of social distancing right now, cut off from our normal connections and responsibilities. Many face the threat of losing their jobs, if they haven't already. We had many bad weeks and months ahead before things will get better.

So this is my song, knowing that we will come out on top after this, and we will be able to reunite with family and friends. I hope you will wait with me, hoping for the same day, however long or hard the road it is to get there.

Awaiting Reunion - Song #7 of 2020

I sat down and wrote this in a single session. I originally just wanted to experiment with some new Pianobook Libraries (https://www.pianobook.co.uk/). As I just wrote this, I got a vibe of caught between two worlds, and the thought of Shadesmar, the Cognitive Realm in Brandon Sanderson's Stormlight Archive series, felt perfect.

A friend of my uploaded the stems to their album a few months ago. I downloaded them, but never really got around to messing around with them....

... until now.

Granted, this is really putting an orchestral background to Dead Agent's song. This is my first time every playing around with someone else's stems or trying to do a remix. I learned a lot!

Imagine Krell fighters decending, alarm bells going off, and Cobb ordering Flight Skyward to scramble to defend their world. 

This was my attempt to capture that moment. Several things I liked about the piece, many other parts are just okay, but this is what I was able to finish. Time to move onto another song.
