“Hike” is part of Memory Mist, a project produced from a variety of audio samples and clips from improvised pieces created in 2023-2024. As a Rubys Artist Grantee, Alejandra Nuñez, also known as A4lenia, curated three live events that delivered experimental and ambient sounds to attendees in addition to developing this body of work. Her research on the healing effects sound can have on the body as well as her own relationship to sampling helped her bring a degree of stillness to her practice. With this project, she was able to integrate concepts from the more fast-paced sounds she was used to playing on the dancefloor as a DJ with an experience that encourages dropping into an internal space. Samples come from interviews, musical influences and her own recorded improvised sessions.
