Welcome to the Funhouse tonight, or maybe i should say welcome to Sundown, one of the very cool goth club venues in Manhattan a few years back when i used to live in NY while i was playing keyboards for the band Dead Emotion with Charles Cudd, the imfamous Kitty Hawke and Danny Crusher. we had such a blast but Friday night i attended this event far too many times due to the great fucking DJ's they had spinning. Loved it so in it's rememberence i had to right an ode to the Funhouse

My Chant to the underworld, something dark, something, something blue, something old. something arabian in feel. i always digged the simplicity of playing this song live and the totally energy of 3 chord powerful rocking number. there is just something to this tune i love.

Breaking up is hard to do and Walking Away even harder then that, i remember dating an a Girl from Wales and when we Broke up on Saint Marks Street in NYC in 1983 I just turned aound and walked away. there was nothing left to say and nothing left to do so that was it, just call in quits.

I met my current girlfriend through an introduction at the Batcave in December of 2003 then meet her a second time at what used to be the old mudd club then a 3rd time at the remote lounge near cdbg's off the bowery in the village. the song is a a description of these 3 meetings which ultimately lead to our both beign together and me no longer being alone.

Speed Queen you got me hung up in your wheel Speed Queen you got me scratch and feel The song is about a buddy's car when i use to work at a gas station when i was a kid. loved that hemi monster. that car was a true muscle car.

the  song was written from a dream i had from when i was in the hospital in 1999 basically the dream came true in 2004 and the story was actually written in the book "Music To Die For" by Mercer. i had a dream about a girl in a white wedding dress and i never saw her face until i  did.

All things equal meeting someone of merit is always something worth remembering.  i think the after effect of thinking about certain memories can really take you to a place that can either be painful or joyous but it takes you some where outside your own body.

I am Aleister Tennyson Hobbs the lead vocalist and guitarist for the band the Dead Sea Surfers. We have been recording music on and off for about 8 years now with a little break when i moved to NYC in 2004 and played keyboards for the band Dead Emotion for about 1 year. The other band members were Charles Cudd, the imfamous Kitty Hawke and Danny Crusher. We had a blast. But my own project has always been front and center “Dead Sea Surfers” The two Compilation cd’s we are on that I am most proud of are the 2 associated with the UK’s “Unscene Magazine” a very excellent quality mag based on the UK underground goth Scene and the new original goth bands. We were on the CD’s available with ISSUE 7 and ISSUE 9 our songs tiphereth and funhouse.

We were also included in the book “Music To Die For” Written by Mick Mercer I would say is the undisputed authority on the subject of the gothic Subculture based in the UK. He has been writing articles and Books about the gothic Subculture since the 1980’and we were lucky enough to be put on his Mick 50 Master List.

Anyway we will be getting back to work later this year as I rap up my rehab from chemo and radiation therapy after being diagnosed with head and throat Cancer in late 2010. Hopefully the Cancer will stay in a remissive state.
