The time has come to blow out another candle on the cake, this time around Crossfrontier Audio is turning 4 years old... and we’re keeping up steam to blow out more! Customary with every birthday bash we throw, this year we’ve doubled up with a label showcase at Amsterdam Dance Event, and a 2-part special release celebrating four years of your favourite Berlin based label.

Through the many moments that have made our label, this year has been no different for pushing our sound passionately across the World’s dance-floors, festivals and beyond. Over the last 12 months we’ve had 12 releases, including EP’s from key artists MUUI and Yoram, we’ve had Jonas Saalbach and THe WHite SHadow blow everyone out of the park with killer releases, Amentia and Foreign Guest gave us remarkable debuts, MUUI and Marc Poppcke gave us their long-awaited debut albums, and if that wasn’t enough, we teamed up with some of the best in the game to give you some deadly remixes from the likes of Einmusik, Solee, Los Suruba and Rashid Ajami – what a year!

You’d think with turning 4, it’d be easy to sit back and enjoy the ride? Yet Crossfrontier Audio won’t stop, we’re gearing up for another year and we’re gunning for our 50th release too! The next of which is a mix of label favourites and exciting new artists who feature on our 2-part 4 Years of Crossfrontier Audio, due for release mid of October – stay in the mix as you will not be disappointed, with a nod to the past and a look to the future, we certainly have a few surprises for you.

Lastly, we’d like to thank everyone involved with us over the last 4 years thus far, be it an avid listener, a DJ playing out our signature sound, or one of the many creative artists we work with – it’s you who we do it for, and we’ll continue crossing frontiers.

One of the most promising newcomers around and known from releases on Bedrock and Aeon, italian born Francys presents his first EP for OFF.
Now based in Berlin, and already hauling an impressive back catalogue, Francys delivers five tracks filled with dancefloor goodness.
Opening up with “Elsewhere”, a catchy melodic deep techno cut, the track creates a tense yet sustainable build up by the way of ambient-ridden synths.
Title track “Komorebi” exerts a similar feeling, craftly layering grave synths peppered with high pitched acid-like bits.
Fellow Berliner and BLKRTZ label boss Deadbeat is the muscle behind the remix, bringing his well known penchant for timeless techno to the game. The reputed sound designer manages to inject more groove, turning “Komorebi” into a peak time contender.
“Pandora's Scream” rounds up the release, exposing a metallic ridden bassline, interspersed with eerie high pitched sounds.
Last up is “The Monk”, a dark and somber sonic exploration infused with mysterious, chant-resembling vocal pieces that give the track a ghoulish atmosphere.

Murky and ominous, PAAX’s debut release on Be Crazy Music simmers, both musically and thematically, while the duo inhabit the gloom of their sounds like a Mexican Santero. Where even deeper minded electronic music producers privilege break downs and hands-in-the-air moments, PAAX emphasizes an incredibly tense ethnic vibe, that differs from everything else currently out there.

Their “Manglar” track starts things off on an extravagantly mystic note, with layers of sounds resembling ancient, percussion drenched trance festivities. At times PAAX even use found sounds - water flowing down a river - to provide their music with a much appreciated organic feel. The over ten minute long composition morphs and builds without being intrusive and is best enjoyed with your eyes closed! 

On “Albina”, the release’s second track, PAAX brilliantly navigates that spiky zone of combining cutting edge electronic dance music with world music elements. As soon as the various string instruments and afro-percussion layers start merging with the duo’s tight groove production and warm low frequencies, the track’s gravity becomes hard to deny.

The No. 016 on Plötzlich Musik is the Gyaan EP of the great Sous Sol. They get supported with two remixes by Nikolas Noam (@nikolasnoam) and Hari Erhardt (@harierhardt).

Sous Sol's music is generated by two individuals, Teo and Lukas, who are putting their entire personalities into their art. Their releases have been published on imprints like Gorge's Re:fresh Your Mind and on Mihai Popoviciu's Cyclic Records. Additional stations include: What Happens, Bondage Music, Hive Audio and Marcus Meinhardt's Heinz Music. Sous Sol also teamed up with three colleagues to run their own label named Neustadtmusik. Overall, Teo and Lukas are true club musicians who know their turntables like the back of their hands and as they never stop exploring the musical world they live in, the duo is
successful in creating fresh new music. We are super happy to heave this great artist and lovely people with us in the label.

After Nikolas Noam did the number 014 on Plötzlich Musik, we where amazed and straight asked him todo a remix for us. He is a Germany based artist and producer from Leipzig. Noam’s music is recognized as blue vibe house with a subtitle pop appeal. Noam has released on labels like Blankhaus Music, Union Jack Records and Cimelde.

Hari Erhardt is managing the label Plötzlich Musik together with Beddermann & Dahlmann since early 2016. He did a quite groovy tool remix and sends you on a subtly journey.

The artwork is done by Robin Kowalewsky. A symbiosis of audio and visual art coming soon on Plötzlich Musik.
