Here's a folk version of Avicii's "Wake Me Up", thanks to everyone who helped out, it was a nice side project to help get into the swing of things in the new year, thanks again, and enjoy :)

"Wake Me Up" Folk Edition

I wrote this track as I wanted to try some Robert Glasper style music with Drum and Bass rhythms in the kit part, and floaty melodies in the saxophone and vocals. I really enjoyed making up some crazy chords and cross-rhythms, it's the first time I've written something like this! Special thanks to Pete Twist (Tenor Saxophone), Sophie Nevin (Vocals), Tom Wardman (Keys) and Alan Drever-Smith (Drums) for taking part in the recording. I hope you enjoy it, cheers.

This is one of my all time favourite compositions. I've had the please of working with some fantastic musicians throughout this project, each one bringing something of their own to the mix. I was awarded a Solid State Logic Prize for Music Production for this composition. I Hope You Don't Mind

This is a piece I've written for my masters. It is based around magnetic chemical elements. It has three movements which are designed to flow from real to electronic and then back to real instruments. I've had a lot of fun working on this piece and have tried to do something new with songwriting and production. Thanks to Philip Jerromes (Drums on Magnetite [Movement 1]), Patrick Ralph (Drums on Xenotime [Movement 3]) and Mark Slater (Piano on Magnetite [Movement 1] and Rhodes on Xenotime [Movement 3]).

Magnetic

A stevedore falls asleep on the dock where he works. As the full moon appears it begins to twist the sounds of the night with the final fog horn awakening him as a ship arrives to start a new day. Thank you to Simon Desbruslais for providing all of the sounds featured in this soundscape. We used several unorthodox techniques and lots of editing to achieve the final sounds. Every sound you hear was recorded from a Trumpet in the same session, there are no other instruments in this piece.

The Stevedore's Dream

A return to form for this one, I had a rough sketch from a few years ago but never did anything with it. Now seemed like a good time to finish it, especially with all that's going on in the world, getting out of the house is good and it reminds me how much I miss driving. Anyway, here's a rock track to listen to, it's fast, punchy and carefree, it was nice to write lyrics about something different. Cheers, Alex.
