Since turning professional in 1998, Alex has been one of the most enigmatic and innovative improvising pianists working on the British jazz and gospel scenes. With mentors having included artists as diverse as Robert Mitchell and John Taylor, his piano work has covered a huge range of touchstones across the jazz, contemporary and world music spectrums. 

Alex’s repertoire features improvisations on and interpretations of hymns, gospel songs, African-American spirituals, Bach chorales, sacred music from world music traditions – and more, including his own music.

In 2011 he recieved a Northwest Jazzworks Jazz Factor Artist Development Award – specifically for his solo piano work in sacred jazz.
