Distorted Perception

It’s been over a decade since the Goodgreef mixes with life very much getting in the way of DJing and keeping up with new music. Buying an XDJ and going through all my old tracks gave me a new lease of life, and before long I’d planned a new mix. In the end I’ve planned and recorded 6 long mixes with different themes.
The 1st is composed of music that I loved and regularly played out in the mid and late 2000’s, I dug through the hard drive and discovered some gems that I’d completely forgotten about. It starts with progressive and breakbeat, building up to euphoric and driving trance. It ended up featuring a number of Bryan Kearney mashups and unreleased tracks that he gave away around the time.

Dance Floor Nostalgia 001

For this mix I listened to every vinyl record in my collection front to back and discovered some absolute gems. This list represents my favourite tracks that I own and there's a high chance that I played at least one of them in every set that I played down the years! It contains some monsters, especially: The Unknown, Time Goes By, Lost Emotions, and my favourite of the lot, Isn't Life Wonderful. I've tried to clean up the sound pre and post production, however there are snap, crackle and pops. These vinyl were played in Clubs, Bars, Barns, Kitchens and all manner of seshes and are now 25+ years old.

This is a celebration of late 2000's / early 2010's power trance and is probably the mix that I'm most proud of!

DFN003 - Halcyon

In June 2022 we got the terrible news that Mark had unexpectedly passed away. He was someone who loved: clubbing, his friends, the harder styles of dance music and had a sense of humour drier than the Atacama desert. I DJed with him in clubs, barns, bedroom and more kitchens that I care to remember. A mutual friend put his vinyl up for sale in order to support his family and I jumped at the chance to help out. I've created a mix using that vinyl. They have been well loved and played to death. I did my best to remove as much snap, crackle and pop as I could pre and post-production. However, these records are 25 years old and have been up and down the country filling him with joy.

This is a tribute to Mark Hanby.

Classics set from The Barn

With Tall Trees finally succumbing  to the wrecking ball I wanted to create a mix that captured that time from 2003 - 2008 when Goodgreef, Tall Trees and Yarm seemed like it was the centre of the universe every single month. The people I met and the times I had will be with me for the rest of my life, If you were involved with it I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I realised that there were too many tunes to fit into a single mix so i've split them into two, Part 1 will be Trance & Techno and Part 2 will be Hard Trance, Hard House, Hard Dance and Hard Style.

Obviously there were hundreds of tunes that remind me of Tall Trees, I've tried to choose the ones that instantly take me back to being underneath that Goodgreef banner, on the dancefloor. If there is a tune that i've forgotten or brings back particular memories then please feel free to let me know.

This is a re-recording of the set I played on the Sunset 2 Sunrise Terrace at Crookfest in Durham on May 4th. It was designed as a festival crowd pleaser so it's wall to wall anthems! Unfortunately the police saw fit to cut the music after only 20 due to the noise we were making. Ah well, here is the mix in full.
