Malawian singer, songwriter & musician Alex I. composes, plays and produces all his music from his unmistakable smokey lead vocals and African-Jazz guitar through to piano, electronic synth, bass, drums and traditional percussion. 
His music, a neo-soul fusion of traditional Malawian rhythms and infectious AfroJazz/Pop, blended with Reggae and Blues, has reached Malawi's Top 10 and featured on BBC radio. 
With a talent for playing any instrument given him Alex I. has played Africa's biggest music festivals, including Lake of Stars 2014, and since 2009 leant his backing vocals, drumming, guitar and bass to the country's top acts including The Black Missionaries, Agorosso and Kuyenba.
Born in Malawi's capital Lilongwe Alex I. grew up in the ghettos where singing in the choir at his church was a much needed escape.  His unusual singing talent and passion for music was noticed by a local musician who taught him the drums. 
Once he understood the basic rhythms Alex I. went on to teach himself guitar, piano and bass, but the smokey tone of his voice, with hints of traditional Malawian song, is all his own and it's an intoxicating sound.
