Visionquest have made a big impact in their first two releases on the imprint from Seth Troxler, Ryan Crosson, Lee Curtiss and Shaun Reeves. Now they fill up the dancefloor with light on ‘Dark Song’ EP from the compelling Tale Of Us.

Engulfing the listener in a luscious wall of sound from the onset of ‘Dark song’, Tale Of Us take an abstract and harmonious approach to their music. Understated beats and yearning vocals stretch the imagination to new heights in a new strain of house music engaging the senses through warm tapestries of sound.

Using similar low-end whispered sounds that resonate in a deep place, ‘Circle Of Love’ is a magnetic slice of dancefloor music. Its skipping beats and rippling bass enthralls but it’s the sensual vocal that gives ‘Circle Of Life’ a special edge and adds an element of mystery. ‘Valiant’ completes the package with an epic dose of bubbling beats and pads, inventing a masterpiece hybrid of techno and deep house leaving you spellbound.

Tale of Us are Berlin-based DJ and production partnership Karm and Matteo who are currently re-writing the rulebook for deeply moving, emotional electronic music. Together they share a sonic vision that pulls together elements of house and techno with influences from pop, nu-disco and even rock music. While all of their productions are instantly recognisable as Tale Of Us, these range from straight-up dance floor jams to low-slung ambient tracks and more abstract compositions. While both originally hail from North America, Karm was born in Toronto and Matteo in New York, they moved to Italy as children, which is where they met and formed the close working bond that they now share.

At present they are based in Berlin, an inspirational frontier, which has given them numerous opportunities to build relationships with fellow musicians who share their unique musical outlook and resulted in this special Visionquest release. Prior to this, Tale Of Us tracks could be found on labels such as Barraca Music, Cocoon' and Life & Death (the Tale Of Us remix of Thugfucker ‘Disco Gnome’ on Life and Death was hailed by Mixmag as one best records of 2010) and have put out various remix collaborations with fellow Visionquest label mates Shaun Reeves & Ryan Crosson. Terranova - Tourette (David Mayer Remix)

Volume 2 shows the versatility we have to offer at Moodmusic, this time we dwelve into techno territory with 2 proper belters. 

First up us Kiki is reworking last years 'Kwai' single from label master Sasse with Stelios Vassiloudis. Kiki turns the deep emotive theme of 'Kwai' into a peak hour affair with some hoovering for pure, unadulterated fun. The track has been a favourite on recent gigs of all of us.

2ndly, Studio Kreuzberg founder and producer extraordinaire Julian Ganzer turns Ed Ed's 'Illusions' into a techno floor filler. Like his recent output on Get Physical, Julians remix oozes of funk, sweat and sex.

Ed Ed - Illusions (Julian Ganzer’s 23rd Version)

Returning to the full-length format after their much-acclaimed 2012 album HOTEL AMOUR (KOMPAKT 248 CD 95), open band project TERRANOVA (aka DJ/Producer duo Fetisch & &ME) presents new magnum opus RESTLESS - a finely tuned succession of excitingly straightforward house bangers and a brilliant study in gravitational pull. Much like their previous releases, the album was produced in "liquid Terranova soundsystem" fashion - a smooth blend of instrumental and vocal tracks created with the help of old and new friends. For „Restless“, this global family of soul sisters and brothers includes CATH COFFEY, LYDMOR, BON HOMME, STEREO MCS and MANDEL TURNER - all revelling in the wholesome house lunacy that is Terranova's signature move. As the center of a cooperative consortium with shifting focal points, Fetisch & &ME have indeed amassed an imposing expertise in their open-minded approach to production, their cosmic grooves and the high-flying melodies.
Inspired by both interpersonal and interstellar travellings, RESTLESS couldn't have been named in a more appropriate manner, constantly propelling forward its protagonists without loosing the slightest ounce of momentum in between takeoffs. After the meticulously refined, panoramic patchwork of HOTEL AMOUR - which was mostly produced in Paris -, the new album was recorded from November 2014 through January 2015 in Berlin bedrooms and mixed in Keinemusik’s Wedding studio... and these ten cuts have a definitive Berlin flair to them. There's also no mercy for stalling vintage studio nerdism - with the band members taking pride in using banged-up, old laptops, keeping the album's bang-per-bucks sonics slinky and bendy.
Opener TELL ME WHY wastes no time with elaborate countdowns or some ambient pad dragging on - starting out with the characteristic vocals from Stereo MCs front man Rob Birch, the track immediately cuts to the chase with its well- pronounced rhythm section and a simple, but sturdy bass. As is the custom with TERRANOVA, the cameos don't end here - NY house agent provocateur Mandel Turner makes a well-intonated appearance on protofuturistic strobe manifesto UNDERVERSE (refering to a constellation of dark, new stars), while singer Cath Coffey performs on uncanny valley's national anthem TWISTED SOULS, again deploying her unique brand of anarchist logotherapy after last year's HEADACHE EP (KOMPAKT 296). With Bon Homme aka Tomas Høffding, another known collaborator takes a stand on RESTLESS SUMMER, a pinnacled reimagining of "Endless Summer" from the PAINKILLER EP (KOMPAKT 262) - less campfire and more wormhole, his lyrics take on an urgency unheard in the parent track. Tomas is also featured on SKIN & BONES, where he lands a flawless duet with partner in crime Lydmor - equally melancholic and muscular, this one is sure to become a crossover triumph on all sorts of bunfights.
From the sequenced beauty of GOLDILOCKS to the intuitive mayhem of WATCH ME or the ruggedness of house jam LABRADOR, the album is a quest for the outer rim of club culture, looking for habitable exoplanets beyond the main floor. This becomes nowhere as clear as on the appropriately named KEPLER 186F, both a tribute to NASA’s iconic Kepler project and a thrilling amalgamation of pounding drums and sharp synth stabs - the perfect soundtrack to the lumps and bumps of humanity's race to space. This larger-than-terrestrial-life journey finds a suitable conclusion in UCHŪ NO INU, translatable as "dog in space“: it's TERRANOVA's executive producer, driving force and guest vocalist Rocco (the choc labrador) who takes center stage here, lending his lyrical musings to a highly energizing cut and wrapping up the riveting listening experience that is RESTLESS - an ideal sonic companion for dance floors, living rooms and space pods alike.

Once again Life and Death presents an assemblage of some of today’s finest artists with a Various Artists release of such high quality that it could have easily stood out as distinct and separate releases. But together these producers and their contributions combine to create something even greater than the sum of their parts. A story assembled from different voices that slowly builds from Sei A’s opening Muladhara-centered “Hyper Venom” and takes off from there, following the path of these musical Mahatmas as they riff on various states of elevation. 

Following Sei-A’s opener is Locked Groove’s shift to the Undenary with “Eleven”, a triumphant score for the everyman’s ascent. From there, the ever adept Scuba comes strong with “Glacial”, a deep track that shifts focus back and forth between both what lies below the surface and what climbs above it. And then, finishing the rise upward is Alex.Do’s expertly woven “Rising” which delivers on the promise that its title offers, never backing down and moving ever onwards and upwards even in its final rising tones.

Title track ‘Siberian Express’ begins blissfully with a hypnotic melody that leads into a deep swelling bass, a forceful beat and intricate layers of warbling keys. An epic breakdown rises from grumbling synths culminating with Jamie’s signature bassline and spacey stabs, as powerful builds fall in and out of play. On the flip, ‘Captain Kirk’s Battle Dance’ is solid and rolls with infectious looped basslines that steers through trippy FX. On a darker tip, ‘The 16th Floor’ is rich and deep with mesmerising synths, layered throughout over a tight groove. 

o+ Undoubtedly the pioneer of the new wave of house music, Jamie Jones is a force to be reckoned with. Alongside running Hot Creations and sub-label Hot Trax, Jamie has also started his new label Emerald City, which will release music with a greater crossover appeal. 2015 has brought forward a huge output of music from Jamie including a stunning collaboration with Kate Simko, London Electronic Orchestra and Jem Cooke on Emerald City followed by the next huge hit from his band Hot Natured called ‘Off World Lover’. Not to mention this impressive solo three tracker on Hot Creations.

Finally we've made it and we're proud to announce that we've reached a milestone that every label aims for: the one hundredth release in a continous sequence of catalogue numbers. And what a journey it has been over the course of the past eight years. To celebrate this once-in-a-lifetime event no-one less than Marco Resmann himself comes up with a dedicated 12“ single that's not only named „100“ but also comes as a special gold vinyl edition plus gold label prints and seethrough packaging that makes this record stick out amongst many in each and every vinyl lovers collection as well as in every DJ case. The original version of „Hundert“ is a big room monster of a TechHouse tune, providing maximum tension through scattered shakers, carefully arranged synth sweeps and long, strident build ups introducing dark, psyched out and proggy bass and midrange warps leading towards an ultimate climax whenever this tune is hammered through a club rig. On the flipside we see the 'Jubiläums Mix' of „Hundert“ following intense spiralling basslines all through the course of the night whilst layers and layers of ecstatic stabs and a continuous swell of uplifting, positive synths introduces crowds to high-octane levels of buzzing dancefloor energy. What a blast.
