This recording serves as both a harmonic and melodic framework for what will ultimately be a fully produced and sung track.  When working on a new song, I like to lay the song down entirely on the piano first and then make note of things to change.  Later I will pull the melody back out to sing it.

With respect to this song specifically, I am fairly confident that the final produced song structure will be quite similar (if not the same) in chord progression and melodic structure.  The piano solo might be slightly varied, but ultimately very similar.  The bass line will be totally different.

Mr. Right for Now

Once upon a time, I gave up on music.  I was tired of playing sheet music, tired of forcing my hands to regurgitate what someone else wrote, note for note.  I always enjoyed playing songs, but hated the exactitude of it all.  I wanted to roam free.  I wanted to write my own songs.

I sat down with my good friend https://soundcloud.com/carl_richie, an experienced songwriter, and he gave me an eye-opening songwriting lesson.  My assignment: write a song in the key of D major that includes 2 or more verses, a consistent chorus, and a bridge.

This is that assignment.  Enjoy.
