A Desperado is defined as a desperate or reckless person, along the lines of an outlaw. A Troubadour is a traveling poet that writes lyrics to a melody.  Wanting to experience both, around April 2016 I did some traveling around Michigan playing open mics and spent a few nights in my car. While doing so, I wrote a few songs. This was one of them.

I wrote this a few months before I took off on a trip around the U.S. to play music by myself. There is something special about being out on the water especially by yourself. The same goes with traveling. You learn things about yourself that you wouldn't have otherwise. You overcome, adapt, learn, and steer the ship the way you want it to be steered. Leading you to a destination you never would have found had you not pushed away from land. Believe in yourself and go for it!

From the E.P Desperado and Troubadour. "Might As Well Write" was written in a friends garage one night while alone with a guitar. The countless hours I would spend with a guitar in there sometimes a song or two would come out of it. This is one of them, "Sail Alone" was another (also on SoundCloud). I believe the tune is really a songwriters tune that begs to be heard. I really tried to portray the lonesomeness a writer of some kind may feel in the lyrics and production of the song and then enlighten perhaps a little bit at the end with the band kicking in. Might As Well Write (From the E.P Desperado and Troubadour)

Nashville Recording Artist Alex Schofield delivers a hard-edged heartland sound mixed with soulful and poignant storytelling. Bolstered by a no-nonsense upbringing and blue collar Midwestern roots he resonates with many and is a memorable act on any main stage. Alex has performed at countless festivals around the midwest, brought many bar crowds to their feet, and has two self-released EP’s as an introduction to his self-described old soul. He’s received recognition from CMA award-winning songwriter Dennis Morgan and has opened up for the likes of Drake White, Natalie Stovall, and many others.

When Alex isn’t touring the Midwest, he is grounded in Nashville, Tennessee, where he performs at select songwriter showcases and regularly collaborates with other upcoming and inspiring singer-songwriters. He is currently working on new songs for his upcoming EP, which he hopes to release in early 2022.  

The goal going forward, Alex insists, is to continue to invest in his craft and grow to the level of the idols he listened to as a youth with his dad.
