The artist scurried through the underbelly of the great megalopolis he called home with practiced ease, weaving through underpasses, alleyways, and densely packed streetsides alike as he journeyed back to a locale he had noticed in brief passing some days before. Its aging brick facade had stood out to him, forgotten amidst the forest of steel and glass that shadowed the alleyway in which it lay. Upon surface materials such as those, the pigments he would use to ply his trade were necessarily chemical in nature, a concoction specifically brewed to cling to such sleek, smooth surfaces. Brick, by contrast, was a rarity. Its porous and often deeply weathered surface allowed for all manner of ancient organic pigments to be used to mark its surface, and as such the artist treated the mortared canvas now before him with a ritualistic reverence. 

Drawing a long thin blade from within his backpack, the artist ran its delicate edge down the length of his left arm, letting the most vital of pigments well up through the thin fissure upon his skin. Then exchanging blade for brush he began his work, bringing life to his newest canvas with the energies of his own.

MOB TACTICS return to EATBRAIN with BLOODBUCKET, a three-track EP with which the veteran EATBRAIN duo unveil their latest works to sate the sonic bloodthirst of the label’s horde.

One of the pioneering icons within neurofunk, BTK has remained a pinnacle part of the drum & bass scene. And his imprint Dutty Audio has also helped pave the way for similar artists, bringing newcomers into fray with every slicing, hard-driving release. For their next output, they've brought on board Mizo for a ferocious rework of collaborative track 'Mind Control', a monster delivered first by Optiv & BTK.

Mizo has already made himself known within the 174bpm world as part of Gydra, a production outfit who need little introduction. Born out of Russia, his music was nurtured within its dance music culture and his remix of 'Mind Control' is a testament to this. Whilst channelling the same furious vibe as its predecessor, his take on 'Mind Control' is violently built, with every layer adding to its last alongside crashing drums peddles and an unforgiving bassline. The track comes thick and fast before it rolls you through all-out anarchy, demonstrating Mizo's undeniable skill as a solo act and as part of a team. Dutty Audio brings the fire once again.

Bound by immortal ties and borne of a time long since passed, a pair of twin souls have manifested themselves in recurring reincarnations across the history of this world. Inexorably linked, these two souls go about each of their myriad lives as they will, ignorant of the strands of fate so tightly wound between their disparate forms. Across all climes of our world they have walked, and in their many incarnations they have been both peasants and gods alike, for such is the fate of such spirits who are always destined to be. For all of their many forms, each and every time comes a subtle tug at their self woven webs, one that fills them with a yearning for something unfamiliar yet known. Thus it is that no matter the distance between them, each shall come to meet the other in some due time, for thus it is that their souls are intertwined. Whether meeting as equals of the material world, or as bearers of titles both lowly and high, this meeting brings a sole realization to their twin bonded minds.

From here are born their legends, heroic and tragic, of this strange pair of souls that has been flung across time. For their fate is unique and apart from any other, and so it is that these two may stand both as enemies or brothers. For every tale of these twins in which they fell some great beast, there is an equal where one does fall at the others feat. They are inseparable allies & horrible foes, cursed with this fate by a power unknown. They were, they are, and they will be again, and perhaps at this moment they call each other “friend.” Yet in their next life that same term may invoke bile, anger for the twin each so utterly reviles. Thus it is that their story may be told with one single word, that modern term FRENEMIES which is so often heard.

TOBAX summons the kindred spirits of the EATBRAIN horde with his FRENEMIES EP, which follows his 2019 EP “Seized Moment” EP and an appearance on the “Divergence II” compilation as the next part of a long collaborative history between himself and EATBRAIN. Now over ten years deep in the game, decorated Slovakian drum and bass
veteran Trilo has amassed a loyal following thanks to his natural ability to juggle intricate melodies with unrelenting bassweight. Best known for his contributions to the neurofunk scene but equally comfortable producing myriad styles of D&B, the now Kraków-based producer’s vast back catalog spans prestigious labels including Renegade Hardware, Bad Taste, Eatbrain and Let It Roll. His most recent offering, 2019’s “Rush”, saw him collaborate with Bad Company UK legend Vegas. Now keen to explore his own musical identity rather than conforming to labels’ often rigid sonic requirements, Trilo has opted to self-release his music via his own label, Trilo Music.
First up on the label is the new single “Sion”, a barbed belter which opens with epic leads, cinematic pads and swirling FX before catapulting into a stunning climax dominated by gravelly basslines and vicious drums. A triumphant showcase of the signature style Trilo fans know and love, this serves as the first in an upcoming string of similarly heavy and technical releases on the label, set to be imminently released on a bi-monthly basis. In
the near future, however, expect Trilo Music to encompass a broader range of music across the D&B spectrum, including plenty of exciting collaborations with other titans of the scene.

What had once been but a small village had changed, coating itself in the metallic materials of a new age born of the prosperity that was wrought by its forebears, those who had bound demons in stone so many years ago. The elements of fire and brimstone with which such creatures once threatened the village now lay bound themselves, claimed and wielded as tools that had wrought the stairsteps of progress from the ruins of the city’s troubled past. As progress had waxed however, time waned, and few left still remembered the obelisk which lay hidden at the heart of their city, encased within a monument to victory over the realms’ more worldly foes. Within however, those foes of old had slumbered, keeping sharp the memories of their magical imprisonment. Outside, time had passed, and now arrived back to where it had once been. Thus with the waking of the demons is stone, the time of DIVERGENCE did once again begin.

It began subtly, as the influence of the demons seeped out from the ancient obelisk, transforming the visages of the metallic heroes who were their former jailors into subtly more monstrous forms. From the obelisks dark and rotted core seeped a sinister demonic poison, and ichor that worked its way into dark places both familiar and new. With it came the demons, who slithered out of their forgotten prison and found refuge amidst the smoke and flame now welcomed by those who had forbade them long before. As their power and number grew, their essence enveloped the city, immersing it in a sea of acrid darkness that choked living beings and the light of the sun with equal tenacity. Caught within this abyssal miasma, the minds of the city’s inhabitants corroded as their bodies mutated into horrendous forms, a slow, grueling process that spared those affected not a single horror. As day and night ceased to pass within the haze that strangled the city, the demons emerged from their dark places, assuming their de facto rulership over the city which was now carved in their image. Thus it was again that the world of the living was changed, therein by the darkness from which DIVERGENCE came.
EATBRAIN continues their DIVERGENCE compilation series with DIVERGENCE III, bringing together a monstrous roster including a surprise last ever appearance by the legendary FOREIGN BEGGARS produced by KILLBREAK, and label veterans TELEKINESIS, AGRESSOR BUNX, MIZO, THE CLAMPS, DISPHONIA, IHR, L 33, NAIS, COD3X, LIVEON, KUTLO and novel additions DISASZT, SHADOW SECT, SCREAMARTS, CHASER. Concocting a vile sonic solution from the component tracks within, EATBRAIN sends their loyal horde onwards under the banner of DIVERGENCE, once again uniting artists new and old in their devastating audio assault.
