Despite the government spending 500 million dollars on suicide prevention programmes beginning on July 1 2019, there’s a gap for critical cases — such as people who have planned or attempted suicide. 

People at risk of death by suicide currently have no middle ground in the mental health care system. They are either locked up in a psychiatric ward or left out in the world to struggle with their demons alone. 

It’s a gap that’s killing people, according to experts.
