In the early hours of the morning, it’s like a whole new world. Everything shuts down; the lights that remain on feel empty and neutral. When I’m driving, it’s rare to see another car. It’s a ghost town. At the university, nothing’s ever really dead; there’s always somebody up somewhere. There’s still life in the campus. I’ve spent my fair share of all-nighters observing the hallways of the dorm, waiting to see if anyone would come out early in the morning. At home, I am no stranger to walking around my house in pure darkness. But somehow, it feels a bit different now, knowing I don’t really live there. Sure, it’s my temporary residence, but it’s not where I sleep every night. It feels like every hour I spend at home is numbered; that the prospect of having to go back to the salt mines looms over my head with every waking minute. It shouldn't feel this way! I should enjoy coming home, but I should also look forward to going back to the university to continue the college life with the few friends that I have..."
