On the Sparrow is a meditation on the rich complexity of paternal relationships. The music ebbs and flows between disparate sections, careening from hopeful driving lyricism to dark atmospheric stasis. All the while, the music teeters on the edge between dark and light; the hymn tune, His Eye is on the Sparrow, hovers somewhere in the background.

Violist Dr. Scott Rawls commissioned On the Sparrow, which was made possible by the Gertrude Burke Endowment.

Following his most recent EP “Corners, Paths, Noise,” Durham-based artist 2Dwave presents a two-track single, “Pumpkin Loop / Kings in Green.” At first listen, these dark, atmospheric tracks have different tones and intentions; however, the relationship between the two unfolds through repeat listens. While “Pumpkin Loop” is a tense, driving piece of haunted techno, “Kings in Green” lets dubby chords shift around a laid-back breakbeat in hazy, pastoral scenery. Together, they form a full picture of the esoteric world 2Dwave produces in. This release is instilled with the same moody and sample-centric characteristics his music is known for, reminding us that any place and any moment can last forever.
