ALEXANDER KAGAN - Violin

Alexander Kagan was born into a family of musicians in Moscow. Moving to Germany when he was five, he began to study the violin. In 1995 he moved back to Moscow to start professional studies at the Gnessin School of music. In 1999 he graduated from the Moscow Music College of the Moscow Conservatory and then at the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory with Sergei Kravchenko and Irina Sytina. He then studied with Kolja Blacher in Hamburg and Berlin. 
He has won prizes at the Glazunov International Competition in Paris, the David Oistrakh International Violin Competition in Odessa, Assembly International Competition, Moscow and the Pinerolo International Chamber Music Competition in Italy.    Recent engagements have included concerto performances with the Moscow Phuilharmonic Orchestra under Yuri Simonov, the “Hermitage” Chamber Orchestra, St. Petersburg, Kiev Philharmonic Orchestra in Odessa, Saratov Philharmonic Orchestra, the Academic Philharmonic Orchestra of Nizhni-Novgorod under Alexander Skullsky, Norddeutsche Rundfunk Orchestra, Rostock, Moscow Soloists under Yuri Bashmet, Georgian Chamber Orchestra under Ariel Zuckerman, Musica Viva under Alexander Rudin and Orchestra dell’ Teatro Olimpico, Vicenza under Marco Guidarini.    His repertoire includes concerti by Beethoven, Brahms, Bruch, Mendelssohn, Lalo, Mozart, Paganini, Prokofiev, Stravinsky, Tchaikovsky and Wieniawski and the Double Concerto by Mansuryan, dedicated to his parents, Natalia Gutman and Oleg Kagan.

Alexander Kagan is a keen chamber musician and performs in ensembles with musicians such as Elisso Virsaladze, Vasiliy Lobanov, Pavel Vernikov, Vladimir Mendelsson, Hagai Shaham, Eduard Brunner, Natalia Gutman and Kolja Blacher at concerts including those at the “December Evenings”, Ars Longa and the “Dedication” Festival, Moscow, the Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival in Finland, the Chamber Music at the Mittlefest in Civedale, Italy, Storioni Chamber Music Festival (Eindhoven) and the International Chamber Music Festival, Lübeck. He founded the Kagan Trio in 2007
