Mood-105 Alex Maier - Heslach EP – Release August 17th

Stuttgarts Alexander Maier delivers another EP on Moodmusic, this time producing on a dirtier Chicago vibe, almost too mellow to be true but still dropping enough chi-town knowledge to jack any floor. The original builds around a dirty hihat workout and dubbed out keys coupled with punchy toms pushing the track forward to a climax of piano hooks, rhodes and epic strings, before dropping to he dub theme for the latter part of the tune. On the remix tip we have the duo of Christian Prommer and Alexander Barck as well as label head Sasse delivering some sweet love juice to the dance floors. Prommer & Barck, hot from their album release "Alex And The Grizzly" on their excellent Derwin Recordings, turns Heslach into a funkier affair with some lovely guitar licks and added vocals to a epic monster of a remix which just builds and builds and is perfect for end of the season parties. Sasse takes his beloved DX-100 and turns the bass up, keeping the original vibe and adding his trademark drums and portamento licks, building a solid deep house belter to fit any wedding. Enjoy !

Barcelona’s Galaktika imprint delivers ‘The Thick And Thin Of It All feat. The Lazarus Man’ from Basic Operators this July, backed with Acumen and Alexander Maier remixes, following their remix of Cosmic
Cowboys ‘Hydra’ on the label earlier in the year.

Basic Operators is the new collaborative guise of Thomas Sari and Alexander Maier, the latter has been involved in the industry for quite some time now with material on Moodmusic, Buzzin Fly, Hypercolour and Fresh Meat in his back catalogue. Thomas has been involved in the electronica scene also for years. If you have not caught one if his live performances or DJ sets, you might then enjoy listening to his original works and/or remixes which have been released by such labels as Blue Note, Missive Music, Timid Records & Night Drive Music.

Here we see the pairs newly formed alias return to the Galaktika imprint with a new single featuring The Lazarus Man. The young south-african artist needs almost no introduction. His distinctive and personal poethic vocals have already been featured on collaboration with Martin Stimming, Tigerskin, Andre Lodemann or The Djuma Soundsystem. For Thomas this release is a very intimate. Already 4 years ago, he co-wrote with The Lazarus Man the vocals to "The Thick and Thin of it All", telling a very personal story of his life and is very delighted about the release and the collaboration with Alex.

The original mix of ‘The Thick And Thin Of It All’ kicks off the single and sees Basic Operators deliver an ethereal slice of deep house fuelled by airy pad melodies, organic rhythms, glitched out synth tones and a bumpy bass hook, all running alongside The Lazarus Man’s poetic vocal stylings. A ‘Dub’ versions follows and as the name suggest strips things back to it’s rawer, instrumental form.
On the latter half of the release French producer Acumen reshapes ‘The Thick And Thin Of It All’ into a bass heavy, stripped back number with growling sub bass tones, loose and evolving rhythms and tripped out snippets of the original’s vocal lines. One half of Basic Operators, Alexander Maier, then offers up his own interpretation of things, offering up a smoothly progressive take on things with drawn out melodies and shuffling drums to close the package.
