Continuous two days of spiritual simulation, world building and deconstruction, excess, surrender, engagement and future observation.

Asterism is a simulation space for possible worlds: virtual, spiritual, dystopian and embracing. In a black hall, accessed through a preparation lock, an extract of reality is constructed - a complete natural copy of a living surrounding. This setting is interwoven with digital and AI controlled components, which create a space on the border of realities. It investigates the question of how much reduction can be done and still maintain the real - or what are the basic components to construct a spiritual experience. This clash and switching between worlds opens an insight into possible futures of a bio-technical nature in which humans are faced with new conditions. The setting was designed as an immersive experience space to which audience and performers alike were given access for 36 hours.

Dark Eyes is part of the cycle "Supramodal Parser".
The one-hour piece examines different aspects of ecstatic "letting-go” episodes through multi-sensory scenarios comparable to those experienced at extended techno events. It deals with both losing one’s self in at times overwhelming audiovisual input and, contrastingly, at times in an almost "frozen in time” / standstill environment. These settings intend to reflect different psychological states rather than create a club event to be danced to. It is a drive through personal perspectives on how to get lost.

Youtube ist sein Konzertsaal und das Internet seine Bühne: Alexander Schubert stellt alle seine Kompositionen ins weltweite Netz. Um seine Musik zu hören, muss man nicht mehr auf ein Konzert warten. Ein Internetzugang genügt.

Alexander Schubert, 1979 in Bremen geboren, gehört zur Generation der sogenannten "digital natives". Das sind Menschen, die mit den digitalen Netzwerken aufgewachsen sind und sich ganz selbstverständlich in ihnen bewegen. Dazu kommt, dass der Musiker nicht die übliche Komponistenlaufbahn eingeschlagen hatte. Er begann mit Pop- und Jazzmusik, und erst dann studierte er klassische Komposition. In seiner Musik verbindet er all das und kombiniert es mit optischen Elementen. Denn sein Thema ist die Körperlichkeit von Musik, die er mit Videos und theatralischen Aktionen plastisch zur Schau stellt.

Concept
The piece is the “inverse” of the German National Anthem. 
For that the melody and accompaniment of the anthem were reduced to one voice and fitted in one octave. Then for every resulting chord in this voice all other notes are taken in the piece “Black Out BRD”. For example the beginning of the anthem is a Eb in the melody and the accompaniment is Eb, Bb and G. So the resulting inverse beginning is C, C#, D, E, F, F#, G#, A, B. That is the first chord of “Black Out BRD”.

Background
The initial idea for the piece is that it can be performed whenever the national anthem is played somewhere. It can then be played synchronously along to the anthem - resulting in blacking out the piece. Like that at every instance all chromatic notes will be heard - leading to a blackening out of the anthem. 
The result both cancels the national music out and also includes a block of notes that could possibly include any other music, anthem or whatever you like to include in it. 

It can also be performed individually and then is considered as an anti-statement against the national anthem and borders on its own. 

Score / Voices
The basic score is a progression of these inverted chords. 
Fitting voices for a given instrumentation can be generated on request. 
The notes can be transposed by every instrument to a comfortable octave.
The instruments to perform this piece need to be able to create up to 11 pitches at the same time. So either it is a very hard piano piece, or a very simple piece for 11 instruments, or a medium piece for 5 instruments by using double stops, multiphonics and so on.

Das Stück ist die Invertierung der deutschen Nationalhymne.
Dafür wurde die Melodie und Begleitung der Hymne auf eine Stimme und eine Oktave reduziert. Für jeden dieser resultierenden Akkorde werden dann in dem Stück „Black Out BRD“ stattdessen alle nicht vorhandenen Töne genommen. Zum Beispiel beginnt die Hymne mit dem Ton Es in der Melodie und in der Begleitung mit den Tönen Es, B und G. Die resultierende Invertierung ergibt dann die Töne C, C#, D, E, F, F#, G#, A, B. Dies ist folglich der erste Akkord von „Black Out BRD“. 

Wann immer die deutsche Nationalhymne gespielt wird, kann man dieses Stück parallel aufführen. Wird es synchron gespielt so ergeben sich zu jedem Zeitpunkt Cluster mit allen zwölf Tönen. Somit wird die Hymne ausgeschwärzt. Das Resultat nivelliert folglich die nationale Musik und stellt aber außerdem Blöcke von Noten her, die jedes andere Stück, Hymne oder was man sonst möchte enthalten kann. 
„Black Out BRD“ kann auch für sich alleinstehend aufgeführt werden und funktioniert dann als Anti-Nationalhymne.

„Unity Switch“ is a participative installation, which allows the participants to look through the eyes of different people and interact on a virtual level. Through the use of video glasses and cameras the perception of vision and sound is routed from one person to another. In this setting the constant switching of perception questions embodiment, body images, virtual distance and digital emotions. It is an exploration space aimed to create a personal experience. The aspects cover such contrasting associations as empathy, control, collaboration, isolation, virtuality and perceptual overload. While delivering a strong sensory input it is designed as a setting to be explored by the visitor - and created to allow a personal and emotional engagement.

Der erweiterte Musiker – das ist ein zentrales Thema in der Arbeit von Alexander Schubert. In seinen Kompositionen versieht er Interpreten mit Bewegungssensoren und erzeugt so eine zusätzliche Möglichkeit der Klangproduktion: Neben den Klängen der Instrumente erzeugen die Bewegungsabläufe des Spielers ein unmittelbares akustisches Resultat. Damit arbeitet Schubert an neuen Methoden und Potenzialen musikalischer Interaktion. Für hr2-kultur porträtiert Michael Rebhahn den 1979 in Bremen geborenen Komponisten.

Die Erweiterung des Musikers ist ein zentrales Thema in der Arbeit des 1979 geborenen Komponisten Alexander Schubert.

In seinen Stücken versieht er Interpreten mit Bewegungssensoren und erzeugt so eine zusätzliche Möglichkeit der Klangproduktion: Neben den akustischen Klängen der Instrumente erzeugen die Bewegungsabläufe des Spielers ein unmittelbares akustisches Resultat. Damit arbeitet Alexander Schubert an neuen Methoden und Potenzialen musikalischer Interaktion. In point of view stellt er Stücke vor, die ihn auf diesem Weg begleitet und beeinflusst haben.
