The red horn - oldger.: Rothe Horn, is the subject of a saga in my hometown. 
A long time ago there was a handsome young lad, who often on the big floodplain island in the middle of the river Elbe. 
One day while swimming he met a breathtaking elf. She has seen him there several times, but she is forbidden to contact humans. She did not resist him and bowed against her fathers will & the old rules.  Burning love developed between the two. 
He wants to meet the elf again and again, but no one should notice. So she handed him a horn that produces a sound that only she can hear. No one should this miracle thing either. They hid it under a tree root. 
As often as it went, he blew into the horn so that they could be together. 
One night, a violent storm surge hit the city. The guy ran hurtly over the wooden bridge than led to the island to save the horn, safe the forbidden love. 
But suddenly horn and boy were torn away by the raging floods. No one saw him and the horn again. Sometimes, when it is quiet down by the river, you can hear the elf crying.

Some people, however, claim that things ended up being different.
So:
The elven king watched the two of them in their romantic hustle and was very annoyed about it.
He argued with his daughter and threatened to kill the boy for his behaviour.
He locked her up and broke a barbaric storm. 
But her sisters, who understood their love, managed to free her.
She quickly dived to the bridge to be with her loved on, to safe him, despite her farther's wrath.
She didn't make it there in time.
So it happend that she pulled her boy out of the water lifeless.
Meanwhile the big one wandered along the shores.
Up and down, up and down he raged massive.
Until he got to the spot where she knelt over the guy.
The sight of his unhappy daughter softed him and the waves smoothed.
The boy was dead, that much is certain. She implored him to do whatever is in his power. The old king was not happy so quickly. She and the old man knew what that means. Their mortal love for the boy was stronger than her will for infinite power. She exchanged this power with the boys life.
The Old seemed somehow benevolent when he left his now - deceased daughter on the shore. 
Ass soon as he was gone, the boy tock a deep breath.
Yes, so they lived happily and contentedly half an eternity as simple fisher on, from and with the river.

Nowadays, it is very, very rare to see people who are perceive their river Elbe in Magdeburg in such a eerie way.
Well it is rumoured that they are descended from the two !
It's weird !!!
