Fur Coat’s Oddity label starts 2021 with a fresh edition of the acclaimed various artists “Odd  Echoes Vol.4”. This instalment showcases some artists that are already known to the label, as well  as many new additions to the family.  

Fur Coat’s commitment to their label over the last few years has seen the imprint amass a dedicated  following and an ever growing list of respected and lauded releases. Utilising their Various Artists  compilations, the duo have unearthed some extremely exciting talent in this world and given emerging  artists a platform to exhibit their craft.  

Diving into the package we are greeted with the melodic and emotional sounds that Oddity has their  recognisable stamp. Its clear though that each artist involved has developed their own signature sound and  presents something unique to the VA. The first half is formed of well crafted tracks which ease us into the  sound. Tracks the build and develop over time and help to kick start out musical exploration.  

In true Oddity style the second half of the package leans towards darker and more driving pieces. Casting  the listeners mind to the dancefloors which the tracks were meant to be played on. Its a VA formed of 21  original tracks mostly from first timers on the label, that all together solidify the identity of the series and  sound of Oddity.

As we round out what has been a year for the books, our first release for 2021 is a celebration for Fabrication who through thick and thin has shined through and laid his incredible stamp on the music industry around the world.

Fabrication delivers Hot Foot with what feels like an endless progression of energy, through his ability to balance a fluid like energy across the board with every single element that goes into his music. The original packs a pounding rhythm equipped with blissful melodies and a few cheeky hidden samples, strong on the peak time dance floor vibes.

To accompany the original we have Australian electronic music royalty on board for remix duties, Jamie Stevens and Anthony Pappa! The lads have put together a classic progressive number reflective of their long-lasting experience and time refining their craft.

After appearing for the first time on Odd Echoes 4, Moonwalk the Milan-based DJs and producers present us their debut EP on the label, a three original melodic and energetic cuts, with a fantastic and powerful remix by the Italian duo Undercatt.

The Neapolitan duo, Dario and Mauro, start the EP with the lead track  "Solaris" a rolling and grooving cut, with a haunting and catchy melody that stays in your mind right away.

On the remix duties we have another Italian duo, Undercatt. They approach the rework with their characteristic elements and sound design, turning the version into a deeper and melodic cut.

To continue with the EP, we have "Enigma", which aims more to dance floor peak time, with elements of Indie Disco influenced percussions. On the same vibe to close the pack we have "Delta", where you can also recognize the duo’s signature sound.

One thing is certain.. Herbert activated the fast forward function! Andhim can use the -button from the keyboard with their track "Better Days" to manually activate the form feed for the party papers. They can only execute this function through entering the value of the amount of vinyl.

Super Flu and Angelov on the other hand use the manual backward-function. The -button in their track "ErQ" can be used for the volume regulation module. Apsara also activates the manual backward-function through entering the value of their track "Simply Red" and then push the -button.

Zoo Braszil can print the world if he combines his track "Step By Step" with the manual or automatic spec sheet print function. If all the tracks are programmed in the registration, an error will occur.

Without a doubt, hope and perseverance are words that are repeated in the heads of many of us to continue to add and keep growing until all this finally passes. So the next EP has a lot of that, hope. Eklektisch gives a warm welcome from Madrid OIBAF & WALLEN with their EP entitled Atlante.

After a few months taking a breath and some new ideas, without going to the studio due to the Pandemic situation, we finally sat together in front of our equipment and began to work on something we wanted to be special and a bit different from our usual sound so far. Our work
philosophy is to always reach new goals and search new sound challenges constantly.

The Atlante EP means a lot for us, it opens a new path of possibilities within our style, something that comes from mixing our main genre with breaks (which one we love), deep & ethereal atmospheres and melodic environment.

We worked on analog and digital both synths and groove-boxes to design this works but, the most unusual point on this release, is the live recording we made of some organic and groove elements such as shakers, percussion and hits.

Oscar L’s star continues to rise for Adam Beyer’s labels; after a trio of Truesoul EP’s between 2017-2019, he stepped up to make his debut on Drumcode in 2020. With a new year comes a fresh Truesoul offering, comprised of a triumvirate of cuts fit for different musical moods.

The Spanish artist expands his repertoire with ‘Under My Skin’, the title track is a perky groover driven by deep bass stabs and a cheeky vocal that will be familiar to many. Keep ‘X’ in your back pocket; it’s a weapon that builds like a sky scraper and is made for peak-time moments, when the opportunity arises. ‘Sharing With You’ was debuted at BPM Costa Rica in January 2020 and is a chugging, vocal-led gem with plenty of low-slung energy.

'Lost Spirits' is an exploration in sounds for dancing. Catalysed by the catastrophe that was 2020, Hidden Empire step off the stage and retreat to the studio on a quest to find out what moves the people.

They seem to have found it. One out of the box, this 16 track album is designed for diversity. Hidden Empire oar their creative rudders, lending their hand from techno to deep house with a cheeky reach-around to a more downtempo vibe.

The first three tracks send you down the rabbit hole on a toe-tapping, hip-slapping aural escapade to the heavier edge of techno, the sublime vocals of Artche taking you directly back to those dancefloor moments when time stands still.

Taking the stairs two at a time in polyamorous heels, youll fall in love with the sassy, classy, savage vibes of Resurgence and Dark Matter.

Transitioning to a more tribalesque vibe is Organic Train a cut which blends the primitive, esoteric influence of the old world with the punchy, industrial sounds of the new world. Continuing on the exploratory sound voyage of downtempo, broken beaten space techno, Mr. P stands in the forest listening to the plants talk to the people. Bebetta slips in with her inimitable style in the collectively inspired All of Us, keeping the Fun Dial turned right up.

Delving deep into the tundra, Hectic Dreams become reality as the album turns towards the chunkier end of the musical spectrum. Punching out the bass-heavy bangers like 'Once Upon' (with a cameo from South African slam poet & spoken word artist The Lazarusman), Hidden Empire roll out with a flurry of cuts that are limitless in genre and luminous in effect.

The Lost Spirits album is a nod to the certain kind of limitless magic which happens when people come together, without preconceptions, to get lost in the music together.
