Nascent is about becoming.

The desire to become a better human being, longing to actively participate in the world around you, striving to actualize your potential, and finding meaning in this process. Over the past 4 years, these have all been things I've struggled to bring to fruition due to my own shortcomings. Nascent is the embodiment of all the emotions which emerged from this struggle.

Writing this album eventually became a source of this conflict. As I created the music which was supposed to help me find peace, I watched the rest of my life begin to atrophy. In many ways, Nascent is also about the writing process and its consequences. Despite this, I would like to believe I've come out the other end having grown because of it.

I am changing. I am learning to be willing, learning to take the shackles off. Who I am and who I want to be are starting to feel like the same person. It's been an insane journey and I am so grateful for it. Thank you everyone for your enduring support and patience. I hope this music finds a place in your life.

A year ago today, I released my debut album, “Nascent.” Born from the most challenging period of my life thus far, it currently stands as the most important thing I’ve ever created. I’m so grateful for everyone who has let this album into their life.

These audio-visual mixes are comprised entirely of original music, almost all of which is currently unreleased. The songs they feature were critical in developing my sound and hold as much of a place in my heart as the music on the album. Alexander Panos - Upscale Fest Mix | 2021

I started writing this song in the spring of ’22. This time was spent listening to the music of Yuki Kaneko and Manuella Blackburn while immersing myself in the flowering local grasslands. I was struck by the delicate, secluded intimacy of Yuki’s album “rut”, the jaw-dropping detail of Manuella’s “Formes audibles”, and how this music accentuated the surrounding landscape. I tried to capture this feeling and the sense of renewal it inspired while honoring these wonderful artists.

I've been finding myself overcome by fragmented memories: the pang of the seasons turning, dreams that linger for days, events and relationships whose mythologies bear no resemblance to the real thing. I think this music reflects that, in a blurry sort of way. Qualities that once anchored my music have become desaturated. Everything’s more subtle, like a furrowed brow and a grin meeting for a fleeting moment on the same face.

This is music I’m still quite shy about. It took a long time to allow myself to start taking these feelings and ideas seriously, but they are a part of me, and always have been. It’s with great hesitancy that I share any of it, especially as my usual mode of operation is sequestering my work away indefinitely. I’ve recently entered a new chapter, unsure of how it will unfold, but trying to learn as always. I’ve stood here before under different circumstances, and I’m sure I’ll be back again.

It’s a long road ahead, but I want to thank everyone who has shown their support thus far.
