AUDIO: The Idaho House State Affairs Committee opened a hearing today (March 17) on SJR 103, which proposes an amendment to the Idaho Constitution relating to the rights of crime victims. 

According to the resolution's 'Statement of Purpose,' those rights would include "the right to notification of court proceedings, reasonable protection from the accused, and a voice in the criminal
justice process."

The public hearing will continue Monday, March 20.

There was sometimes emotional testimony today from victims of crime and their frustrations with the justice system. Lawmakers raised concerns about whether the best way to address the issues was through a constitutional amendment or through statute.

Rights of Crime Victims is Focus of Idaho House Panel Hearing

AUDIO: The Idaho House today, with no debate, passed seven FY '18 appropriation bills for the state's K-12 public schools. The process took less than half an hour; the votes were 68-2 (H 284), 68-2 (H 285), 68-2 (H 286), 69-1 (H 287), 70-0 (H 288), 67-3 (H 289), 70-0 (H 290).

Included in the appropriation bills is a $62 million for teacher raises.

AUDIO: Idaho House Passes Public Schools Budgets

The matter of the Donald Trump campaign’s alleged ties to Russia have dogged this administration since its very first days. For the first time in public hearings, Congress is digging into the matter. Today, FBI Director Comey revealed that the Trump campaign is under investigation for its Russia ties. Will Democrats “overplay their hand?” Further, President Trump’s chilly meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and some awful job approval polls for the president suggest the White House is having a bad week. John Podhoretz is out today, so Abe Greenwald and Noah Rothman dissect the day’s developments. Give a listen.
