New York artist Jean Pierre is launching a new label. Having already featured on a long list of platforms previously, he knows a thing or two about producing tracks. The passion for music is no longer focused solely on his own endeavours, with Pakate Records set to serve as an outlet for friends and artists alike. FLETCH steps up for the first release, with both Franco Cinelli and Pierre himself on remix duties.

Such support for the rising UK talent must feel pretty good. The originals on Actin’ Up EP are devoted to a concoction of minimal grooves and vocal song. Since 2005 Jepe and Antonio Bastos joined forces as Johnwaynes, and they are very successful with it. From their first releases up to now, they have produced under the same guise, a widely diverse body of work, from a very diversity house, to full-on orchestra oriented classics, with the occasional drift into the more elegant territories of disco. The new EP “Beat My House” continues right there.

With Disconine, a vinyl junkie from Portugal, this 2-tracker EP has been produced. “Beat my House” whips the hi-hats and claps around the listener’s ears and also it is a little oldschool as well, therefore it is a true tribute to this genre. Last but not least “Body Up” is a cool tool that glorifies the brightness of vinyl by its spoken vocals.

Kicking off his career as a promoter/DJ of Birminghamʼs legendary Below parties which have seen just about every DJ worth their salt play, Ashique ʻSubb-Anʼ Subhan has developed into one of the most bankable producer/DJs around. The sound design graduate has already graced Tsuba, Leftroom, Hot Creations, 20:20 Vision, Mothership and his own One Records imprint while forthcoming material for Culprit, Spectral and Crosstown Rebels is set to further an already cast-iron reputation.

Starting with the uncompromising tones of Wadsworthʼs ʻLime &amp; Pinkʼ on One Records, ʻ1trax Twoʼ kicks from the off. After the bold beginning weʼre treated to a fluid flow into some of the finest house music around. Tsuba Records boss Kevin Griffiths ʻLucky Threeʼ provides contrasting warmth to the opener while the shimmering melodies of Rob Melloʼs remix of Hectorʼs ʻThe Egoʼ slide the listener further into Subb-Anʼs delectable take on house.

From the tripped out tones of DʼZeta Nʼ Basile &amp; Dodhaʼs ʻHorariaʼ and Alex Arnoutʼs ʻVanishing Pointʼ via punchier fare from Shenoda and Javier Caballo the mix nods at a multitude of vibes throughout. There are lunges towards Derrick Carter-esque funk and the occasional nod to warped minimalism but everything is drawn together into a tightly flowing and always-entertaining 12 track mix. 

Featuring tracks and remixes from Kevin Griffiths, Rob Mello, Shenoda, Maya Jane Coles and Kris Wadsworth ʻ1Trax ʻTwoʼʼ mixed by Subb-An is a brilliantly judged snapshot of some of the finest house around.
