Contexterrior & Tuning Spork were launched in the early 2000’s by Jay Haze and soon became critically acclaimed & influential, establishing - along with Perlon - the new school minimal house & techno sounds of the 00’s. As Jay moved to Peru in 2010, the labels were temporarily put on hold, but after this short hiatus, he has decided to relaunch both labels into a combined format, which will see them together under the same roof.

This hybrid label is launching with catalogue number CNTX/TS 1001 and comes from London based Alex Celler, who has been collaborating with Jay & his labels since 2009. Then, confirmed releases of Signor Andreoni, Michal Ho, Kreon and of course Jay himself will follow later this year and in 2015.

On the A side of this EP ‘’Kammsa’’ expands over 11 minutes and is based on a bubbling, funked up bass which mutates slowly and maintains a steady yet driving pace, accompanied with percussion and melodies, slowly escalating into a dynamic groover which quickly takes off.

On the flip side ‘’Plex Astunde’’ comes strong and mysterious, with shuffling rhythms and syncopated syncopated drums, rolling along sub bass tones, forming a chuggy, sleek rhythm which leads to a melodic turn, only to descend again to glitch territory.

In 2013, while playing a gig abroad, I shared this track with the promoter who had booked me. A few years later it somehow ended up on a DJ's USB stick (without my approval) and was played in a YouTube stream of his set that racked up a fair number of views. The track was IDed in the comments and since then I’ve had ongoing requests to release it. Since fitting 23 minutes on a vinyl record (at a decent level) is impossible and as I didn’t want to split it across 2 sides, I’ve decided to release it on Bandcamp:

Manos Hadjidakis was a Greek composer & theorist of Greek music, widely regarded as one of the greatest Greek composers of all time. He died in 1994 leaving behind a body of work of profound beauty (musical & philosophical), intertwining the Eastern & Western musical traditions through the scope of his Greek gaze. I grew up with Manos Hadjidakis' music, as back in the 80s and 90s it was taught to children from kindergarten till high school, which left a deep imprint on me.

This remix was produced in 2013 as a tribute to the composer. I sampled his 1973 LP The Wanderer, the Drunken Girl, and Alcibiades. It is far from his best known material, a rather obscure release among his most celebrated works. I chose it because the haunting atmosphere of the LP fits the electronic music scene narrative perfectly. The Wanderer represents the restless modern man searching for meaning through music. The Drunken Girl symbolises innocence but also the intoxication of youth. Alcibiades (the famously controversial Athenian from classical Ancient Greece) becomes a metaphor for ambition, corruption, charm and betrayal. Therefore, the original LP is a musical allegory on the human experience
