"Five" is a piece for 4 instruments (viola, cello, saxophone alto, guitar) and electronics. Premiere on April 6th 2018 at the New Space of Theatre of Nations in Moscow. Ensemble Kymatic: Alina Petrova, Anton Izgagin, Sergey Khramtsevich, Alexey Chichilin, Dmitry Remezov.
In this piece I tried to present two different experiences of time - time measure in written score and real time of the concert situation.

Field-recording reproduced by voice allows to create a founded soundscape. Imitation of sounds of nature reminds of the adaptive mechanism of mimicry, a defence strategy of many organisms. This work invites listeners to immerse into state of uncertainity and doubt, as well to try to imitate sounds what they hear in the moment.
The 8-channel composition was presented at the  Russian Sound Art Showcase Berlin in frames of Vorspiel / CTM & transmediale 2020. Petersburg Art Space Berlin.

Solo-performance based on the text of “Capital” by Karl Marx

“The fall of Comunism in my country provoked an irreparable disappointment and distrust over Marxism. In order to overcome this disillusionment and feeling of disgust towards everything that remind us of the Soviet ideology, I felt the need decontextualise/deconstruct Marx’s text by incorporating elements of humour and also pushing it to a certain limit of abstraction that I think is necessary to accomplish a traumatic cultural process such as this. 

With the help of extended vocal techniques and improvisation, I have chosen some fragments that highlights its most relevant and controversial features. A hidden dramaturgy of the text is revealed to the audience. These I call “capital poetic images” that manifests as leitmotivs and combined with music they produce a musical embodiment of the text.
The result is a newly found poetic world of Karl Marx’s  ̈Capital ̈ that will regain a newly distinct voice, the voice I’m looking for. “

Alexey Kokhanov is a singer, sound artist and performer based in Moscow. In 2001, he entered the department of musical theatre at the Russian Academy of Theater Arts. In 2003, he started studying voice at the University Mozarteum Salzburg in Austria. He graduated with honours with a Master of Art in "Lied and Oratorio" in 2010. Also in 2010, he received the special prize “Premio Oratorio” at the international competition "Musica Sacra" in Rome. In 2011, he attended an exchange program (Erasmus) at the Conservatoire Nationale Supèrieure Musique de Paris. In 2012, Alexey joined the Flanders Operastudio in Gent, Belgium. 
In 2015 Alexey attended laboratory “Voice” with guidance of Natalia Pschenichnikova where he participated in masterclasses of Shelley Hirsh (USA) and Christian Kesten (Germany). In 2016 followed study at the Sound Art Courses in Moscow.
Alexey is a guest artist at the Electrotheatre Stanislavsky and artist of the Krymov’s Laboratory at the School of Dramatic Art Theatre. He has performed as part of the Royal Shakespeare Company in UK in “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” at the Shakespeare Festival and Edinburgh Festival in 2012 and in 2014 in Australia and New Zealand. From 2015 Alexey starts make performances by himself as a director and composer. Recently Alexey sang a role of Protagonist in “Maniozis” by A. Beloussoff at the Electrotheatre and role of Seneca in Dmitry Kourljandskij opera “Octavia.Trepanation” at the Holland Festival in Amsterdam.
