For those who were asking what the mysterious mix that was put on after the DJs stopped playing outside at the Life and Death party in Art Basel, here it is. A mellow trip prepared by Greg from Thugfucker and presented here as a little thank you from all of us at Life and Death. 

It's been an amazing year and we're so very appreciative of all the support we've gotten as we've adventured forwards on this incredible musical trip together. We've got lots of exciting things planned for the year ahead (and beyond!) and we look forward to continuing together on this ride wherever it takes us.

Greg's Mellow Trip

It’s been 3 weeks, and I’m still vibrating - still a little incredulous about playing live at Kater Blau, a venue that has been on my bucket list since it was still called Kater Holzig. It’s home to so many great artists I admire, a place that has long extended its magic beyond Berlin’s borders, and I am so honored to have had the opportunity to fill it with my music. 

I’ve been thinking about putting my live set together for a long time, so when the opportunity to premier it at Kater knocked on my door, it was crunch time. 2 months to conceptualize, dissect, render, rehearse - most of that time was spent on figuring out what doesn’t work. Many times I thought about changing to a DJ-Set instead, but ultimately, and last minute as always, I got to a point where I felt comfortable enough to take it out of my little garage studio here in Brooklyn all the way to my home country’s capital. 

These two hours on the Heinz Hopper floor went by lightning fast, and it all feels a little dreamlike still. Of course it wouldn’t be a live set without a few hiccups here and there (see if you can spot my „launching a whole scene, instead of just one clip“-mistake in the early part of the set haha), but I think that’s what makes it come alive in the first place. I learned so much from this experience, and got back to my studio/garage with plenty of ideas on how to grow from here. I want this to be a malleable work-in-progress, evolving together with me - unique, non-repeatable, moment-capturing, responsive, alive. 

Thank you to everyone to came out and got hot and sweaty with me on the hottest weekend in Berlin, literally and figuratively. A warm welcome indeed.
Thanks to all the artists who were involved in this event - you inspire me, you make me push myself, you made this weekend one for the books!

Hello everyone. I was honored when Adrian asked me to record the 200th episode for the Magician on Duty Journey Series. 

For this special occasion, I want to take you on a journey back in time to my teenage self falling in love with electronic music for the first time. I grew up with most of these songs and associate many special moments with them that I shared with special people. 

I think back to this time very fondly and would like to thank everyone who accompanied me on my personal journey.

But now it's time to buckle up and enjoy the trip.

✍️ Das musikalische Closing einer Party zu gestalten erfordert Feingefühl und einen langen Atem. Nach stundenlangem Feiern müssen die erschöpften Gemüter bei Laune gehalten und im besten Fall revitalisiert werden. Die Konkurrenz der Möglichkeiten ist dabei ein nicht zu unterschätzender Faktor. Für die einen winkt bereits das Bett, für andere die Afterhour oder ein Partywechsel. Damit möglichst viele Gäste bleiben, müssen Fakten geschaffen werden. Hierfür sind eine Uhrzeit entsprechende Trackauswahl und Set Struktur die Basis. Dabei sollte zu einem die Stimmung der Anwesenden aufgefangen, zum anderen das Energieniveau gehalten werden. Dafür ist es essenziell, den Gästen ein gutes Gefühl zu vermitteln. Eine anschauliche Performance und Präsentation auf der Bühne sind hier das Mittel der Wahl. Kombiniert man die musikalische Facette mit dem künstlerischen Ausdruck, ist die Wahrscheinlichkeit sehr groß sein Publikum wohlwollend in den Morgen zu geleiten. 

🎵 Bei dem heutigen KataHaifisch Podcast handelt es sich um ein Closing Set aus der Beate Barfuss. Schöpferin dieses musikalischen Ausklangs ist die in Berlin beheimatete soso klein. Für ihren Auftritt in der Beate hat sich soso voll und ganz auf das Setting und Playtime eingelassen. Die Tracks treffen genau den Bereich zwischen dahinschwinden und Energie  spenden. Wohlbekömmliche Kost für die späten Nacht bzw. frühen Morgenstunden. Eine angenehme Mischung aus warmer Wolldecken und frischer Früchtetee Atmosphäre.
