Alex Flatner has commissioned a superb selection of bold and adventurous remixers to rework the excellent Purpose for a summer 2014 release. Alex and LOPAZZ lock themselves in the studio at every available opportunity creating their musical masterpieces and on Purpose they also present the unique voice of Nick Maurer.

The original version of Purpose came out on Circle Music at the tail end of 2013. The Mannheim based multi-tasking DJ/Producer/A&R/Label Boss having teamed up with his label friend and colleague LOPAZZ to create a track that is the epitome of the label - refined and sophisticated, filled with subtle sounds to pleasure your eardrums. 

Alex Flatner always attaches great importance to ensuring that only the highest quality music appears on his label and with this Purpose (Remixes) package, he has once again brought together a mouth-watering array of talent to produce another memorable release. 

George Morel is a man whose name stands for warm and soulful house sounds and it has been that way for decades, having been active in the scene right from the early days. His deep appreciation for music that fills the room and moves the soul, referencing house music's past but engaging fully with the future, is clearly on display within his masterful rework of Purpose.

With his debut artist album on Circle Music waiting in the wings, Italy’s Chris Venola shows exactly why he is such an exciting prospect with his gloriously subtle, stripped-back beauty of a remix. Hot on the heels of the excellent original “Courtesy” EP, from Alex Flatner and his super-talented label friend and colleague LOPAZZ, the Mannheim based multi-tasking DJ/Producer/A&R/Circle label boss has put together a stunning remix package by some of the most exciting, talented artists out there right now.

Romanian born and now Nurenberg based, DJ/Producer Markus Homm, can regularly be found behind the decks of some of Berlin’s finest clubs (Panorama Bar, Watergate and Tresor, or international destinations from Madrid to Tokyo. With such a strong pedigree, it is no wonder that his deeply delicious, bassline driven remix of “Courtesy” creates a most compelling groove, and is the perfect opener for this super-high quality package. 

Berlin based DJ/Producer Christoph (aka Click Click) is a master of his own highly distinctive fusion of funky nu-disco, with deep house styling and a twist of pop appeal, so his reworking of “We’re No Good” is undoubtedly, incredibly addictive. Meanwhile, representing the UK, a club classic production and remix machine (think Sasha, New Order, Skunk Anansie, Seal etc.), namely Blue Amazon, ups the ante with a highly energetic, techno interpretation of “Courtesy” that oozes total dynamic inventiveness. 

The next interpretation is from the superb Inner Rebels, a duo from France & Greece formed by Manos & Rafael Cerato. Alola Records welcome Alex Flatner of Circle Music & Patrick Kunkel to the label working alongside Jadele (Vocals) who released on alola last year with “Daydream’ seeing label boss Omid 16B & Alex George on remix duties.

‘Magnify’ opens the package here with subtle gestures, sharp and clean in arrangement whilst adding airy vocals over a punchy oscillating baseline throughout.

‘Intensify’ sees the guys going into Nu Disco territory, a little morev lazy and kicked back with a constant groove you can’t ignore, beautifully crafted melodies with catchy yet haunting vocals sitting perfectly on top.

First cut Every day is made of intricate beats, sustained basslines and synthesized sweeps, featuring vocals by LOPAZZ. 

Tigerskin remixes Every day, adding more analogue workout to the original arrangement, simplifying the beats, cutting the vocals adding a more hypnotic feeling with the excellent string fuelled arrangement, like a dub version of the original.

Closing the release Acid Department is the most abstract exercise here, precise groove, funky bassline, chord stabs speeded wisely during the arrangement made this track an excellent quasi techno hybrid.

As you can feel, we are about timeless music, not trendy loop library numbers. From Shanghai with love.

“Circle Music” next release is something of special quality and a project that we have been excited about for some time. Its not often on one release that you have such an inspired choice of artists all working together for the greater love of music.

“Alex Flatner” has become such an active production powerhouse since the 90’s with endless amounts of productions spanning from Techno to Tech and the deeper side of house.
“He’s made creative hits in the dance music world and always strived or something original and unique in sound.
“Lopazz” is an inspired choice of producer and has warmed the ears of many with his releases on “Get Physical Music”, "Cocoon" and the legendary “Pokerflat”.

There’s always something momentous about a “Lopazz” production that leaves you wanting more.

“Cari Golden” is the immerging voice of house music. This LA based vocalist is inspiring us all with her range of creative flair. Her recent collaborations have really set the tone for her diversity with a vocal performance’s reminiscent of “Groove Is In The Heart “ by “Deee-Lite”
.
Track 1 is “Alex Flatners” personal interpretation of this great track. What you have here is a quality affair with an 80’s esque production. Its very soulful capturing your imagination, classic string lines with a real funk feel about it. This is not just house music it’s electronic art.
Track 2 we step into “LD Nero” Remix, LD Nero for those who don’t know is one of the hottest brands right now. He’s already had releases on Baby Ford ́s imprints "Pal/SL & Trelik" and “Get Physical Music" and is definitely one to watch. He’s remix here follows suit from the original to a degree with great 80’s sound percussion and funky builds. There’s a lot of space in the remix and surprises the more you listen.
Track 3 kicks into “Lopazz” take on the theme. This kicks straight into a dirtier house driven groove from the off. Its very infectious sounding with a moving baseline and subliminal chord structure. The more you listen to this mix you are hypnotized by its fantastic synth work. Everything has been played live without any midi or computers involved.
Track 4 we finish off with “Shan” remix, “Shan” is another artist that’s raising the eardrums of many right including his release on “Running back” label. This remix is full of varied influences as it starts off in house music stylistic before we are introduced a break beat sound that touches into a 90’s groove that was huge in the UK. There’s more sample based touches and hits that builds in its own way.

Circle Music label boss Alex Flatner is now based in Berlin, the city that never sleeps. He was able to convince himself of that fact on several occasions with his Circle Music Nights, for instance at Ritter Butzke. And all those who were there know about the qualitative requirements and his sensitivity for the good music. With his longtime buddy Lopazz he has now once again held a studio session. The result is a true sound bomb!

“Philharmonic” starts exceptional minimalistic and extends to over nine minutes. Here Alex Flatner and Lopazz spread not only swirling synths, jumping beats and rolling basses, they join their shared love of experimentation, ecstatic sounds and musical sensitivity in a very impressive way. Cocoon artist Christian Burkhardt takes up this entire bandwidth and prepares a remarkable piece of Techno music in form of his remix, while the Swiss guy Definition, inter alia known for his label Definition:Music, presents his version of a summery sounding tune between Techno and House.

Still Hot (SH002)

The second release on Still Hot comes from the formerly Stuttgart based Ninetoes, who had a huge hit with “Finder” on Kling Klong right at the beginning of his career. During the last years and months, strong releases appeared on labels such as Moon Harbour, Saved Rec. and Mobilee, which prove that Ninetoes can definitely not be called a one hit wonder.

Ninetoes’ signature can clearly be read within the title track of Stillhot 002, “Whaddup Kid”, which easy-going groove invites to proper head-nodding. The built-up of the main-theme floats directly into the feet and hips and offers despite or maybe even because of its minimalism a lot of drive to the track.

With his unique sound between House and Techno, Alex Flatner not only made himself a name with his label work, e.g. for his own imprint Circle Music, he also has been given the opportunity to play at clubs and festivals all over the world. In addition, there is a remix by Markus Homm & Mihai Popoviciu on this release, who were responsible for the catalog number 001 on Still Hot with their EP “Insomnis”. When the Berlin booking agency Still Hot launched its own label at the beginning of the year, the founders Martin Eyerer, Alex Flatner and Benny Grauer saw the opportunity to represent the agency and the circle of artists on this platform. Meanwhile, a firm has emerged with Still Hot, which has slowly but steadily grown into an accredited label. With the catalog number 006, the three (elective) Berliners once again take the opportunity to present the musical work of the artists united by Still Hot and supply us with five new tracks specially produced for this compilation in the middle of the open air season. First comes Alex Flatner, who alongside his other label projects like Circle Music, proved with his 'Welcome To My Life' on Still Hot, that he has not only mastered the fusion of Techno and House, but has also perfected it. With 'Without You' he delivers a hot candidate for the pole position as a summer club hit. With 'The Source Code', Benny Grauer sought the formula for the perfect track and mixed tension, hypnotic sounds and danceable rhythms. Now, with 'Absolute Alert', he refines that with a light breeze of Acid, but always remains faithful to his in-trance-spinning sound. The internationally most successful and well-known artist on Still Hot is undoubtedly Martin Eyerer, a man with many talents, full of action, and always a tremendously great passion for music, as he proves with his radio show, his own label Kling Klong and the associated club showcases. With 'Accessor' he keeps his usual tempo, is less techy, but even more funky and groovy. In this way, he also lays the foundation for Martin Landsky, whose track 'Alpha Funk' hits a similar notch, but remains minimalist and deep at the same time. As a new addition to the label Still Hot, he delivers a wonderful debut. On the other hand, Mihai Popoviciu and Markus Homm make the final point, who got the ball rolling with the catalog number 001 and the track 'Insomnis'. Also 'June Tune' is deep, a little funky, yet impulsive and demanding and completes this sampler skillfully. A retrospective that does not fall back on already released tracks and relaxes on their laurels, but rather an independent EP, that makes a point of looking into the future of the label.

With the „Exile E.P“, we proudly present you the 10th release on our Deep Circus label. The 10th release is always a very special event for any label, and so we are very pleased that we were able to get two great artists involved: Flatner and Hermanez, who delight us once again with a great piece of work by the name „Exile“. Alex Flatner has already contributed a phantastic remix to the very first release on Deep Circus, which was the „Nine Days Wonder“ EP by Benny Grauer, thus making him a Deep Circus Artist of the very early days. 
Flatner is well known for lots of succesful cooperations with various artists such as Lopazz or Martin Eyerer, with releases on Cocoon, Poker Flat, Get Physical, Kling Klong and his own imprint Circle Music.
„Blossom“ on Result Recordings in 2011 was Flatners first coproduction with the exceptional belgian producer Hermanez. Recently those two presented another extraordinary bomb for the dancefloor called „When the sun goes down“ (on „Noir Music“), which is stilistically quite similar to „Exile“. It seems as if Flatner and Hermanez have a common secret language when working together in the studio, destined for success and letting us look forward to many other great releases of those two in the future. 
The remixes by Warren Fellow, David Keno and Benny Grauer are just as awesome as the original track, and will be available on vinyl as well as digital. Each artist had his very own interpretation of the original according to his personal style, while keeping it close and related to the original track. There should be something in it for every taste...

Some people crave the public adulation and trappings of stardom that a successful career in the electronic music industry can bring. Some people are too busy being creative to worry about these things. With some people, when you scratch beneath the surface, unfortunately there is little substance to talk about. Then there are some people who have come in under the radar, conscientiously building great things in their own quiet way. These are the true masters, people who, when you dig deeper, you find famous productions, genius collaborations, exciting record labels and legendary club nights. Germany’s Alex Flatner is such a person, he may not yet be a household name but his career achievements so far are way beyond impressive.

Anyone seeking a role model for how to operate successfully and with longevity in the electronic dance music industry today, should study Alex Flatner, the art of multi-tasking across disciplines has been honed to perfection by this congenial, self-effacing man from Munich. He runs his highly successful underground labels, Gedankensport and Circle Music; works as an A&R manager for labels including Harthouse and Plastic City; is a producer of immense talent and a highly regarded DJ who travels all over the globe at weekends.

Having started to produce music in 1992 for his own enjoyment, a chance meeting with Corvin Dalek, A&R for the Berlin based MFS label, resulted in his first big hit, “Pounds & Penz”. The record sold more then 50K copies (on vinyl) and was licensed to many compilations. Such huge success led to many remix and production opportunities, a personal highlight for Alex being his highly creative reworking of “Crystal” by New Order, a version much loved by Bernard Sumner.

An introduction to the world of DJing came about by accident in 1995, when a new club opened (Electric Delicate) in his hometown of Munich. The DJ didn’t turn up one Saturday night, so Alex ended up spinning some records to keep the crowd entertained, the night becoming one of the most popular in the city at that time. Crucially, this new creative outlet led to Alex Flatner’s name becoming known outside Germany. These days he can regularly be found behind the decks in Istanbul, Rome, Berlin (Watergate), Paris, Madrid (Fabrik), Bloemendaal (Woodstock 69), Rotterdam and many other major clubbing cities around the globe.

Always wanting to learn and develop his skills further, Alex took on the role of A&R in 2002 for a variety of labels. Up to now, he has signed more then 3000 releases for Harthouse, Plastic City, Fine Audio, Monoid, Mole Listening Pearls, Circle Music, Gedankensport, Galvanic, Compressed and for many other imprints. 

In 2006 Alex Flatner moved from Munich to Mannheim, where he has continued to be based to this day, working across his many disciplines. A steady flow of highly charged, intensely creative productions on Toni Rios’ Soap Records (“Oriental Dreams”, 2008), Sven Väth’s Cocoon (“Make Up Your Mind” 2009), Steve Bug’s Poker Flat Recordings (“Dinosaurs”, 2010 and “This” 2011) and Daniel Schlender’s Result Recordings (“Blossom”, 2011), have marked him as a producer of immense talent. The licensing and inclusion of his tracks on mix compilations by Locodice (“In The Lab”) and Sven Väth (“Ninth Season”), and may more, have steadily built respect and profile around the world.

When you dig a little deeper and discover a stunning array of recent remixes, including: Gui Boratto “Atol” (Harthouse), Terry Lee Brown Junior “Pulsar” (Plastic City), Steve Lawler “Almerina” (Harthouse), Mike Vamp “High On Heels” (Top Model), Alejandro Vivanco “Vita Jo” (Eukatech), David Keno “Stars Above” (Keno), amongst many, you realise Alex Flatner has his finger firmly on the pulse of electronic dance music. Additional studio and collaborations with the likes of Lopazz, Reboot, Santos, Simon Baker, Oliver Klein, Ken Ishii, Joey Beltram, Anderson Noise, Einzelkind and Martin Eyerer show that here is a producer who thrives on creative relationships, always seeking to experiment and develop as an artist.

Since starting his own Circle Music imprint in 2004, Alex has worked hard to release amazing music from an astonishing array of international artists, including Gui Boratto, Sébastien Léger, Valentino Kanzyani, Umek, Anderson Noise, Robert Babicz, Leandro Gamez, Michel de Hey, Santos, Joey Beltram, Bryan Zentz, and may more, alongside his own productions and those with studio collaborator Lopazz. In 2007 he released a fabulous label compilation mix CD (“World Of Circle”) linked with touring through France, India, Spain, Croatia, Germany, Poland and Russia. A further “Best Of Circle” label compilation appeared in 2009 and 2012 will see Alex Flatner release a new Circle compilation in the emerging nu-disco style. Whilst establishing Circle Music, Alex also realised that he also needed an outlet to explore possibilities with more pure house orientated music. Launched in 2006, Gedankensport has overseen the emergence of superb releases from Vox Sola, Evil Hinko, Piemont, Pelle Buys, Christopher Rau, Daniel Bortz, Matiss. Having two distinct platforms to release a wide variety of great music has given both labels the creative freedom to thrive and develop over the years.

In early 2012, Alex Flatner and Lopazz (best known for the quality, avant-garde club music he’s released on labels like Get Physical, Cocoon, Pokerflat) have been locked in the studio at every available opportunity creating their debut artist album, a project that will feature some surprising collaborators. Their track “Perfect Circles” (Circle Music, 2008), featuring the voice of Lopazz, received much big name DJ support, including Sven Väth, who played it for a whole summer season in Ibiza and licensed it to his yearly Cocoon mix compilation. This huge success resulted in further work together for Cocoon (“Make Up Your Mind”, 2009) and then “Dinosaurs” (2010) for Steve Bug’s Poker Flat Recordings. Their next single release is scheduled for release on Get Physical at the end of April 2012. After such illustrious beginnings, the debut album by Alex Flatner and Lopazz is sure to be one of the musical highlights of the year.
